Double the fun I guess 😂😉
Actually at a tourist day, I don't think you even need a helmet

When I went it was a track day and only 60 people turned up. Was like having the place to yourself (and that was daunting enough) despite hours of practicing on the PS4 - nothing prepares you for the reality though - the elevation changes are crazy!

Is it just me, or does it seem that to notice the performance advantage of a CSL you would have to be a professional driver on a close circuit? I mean, I see these videos and think that my humble M4CxD (+RC) can probably hang with an average driver behind that CSL; or am I just delusional?

Not to take away from the CSL from the Automotive porn POV; it is a beauty!

That's a great question - who knows? I'd say keeping up with a CSL on track would be pretty difficult but to be fair that all depends on the driver? Guess we'll need to see some real track data to ever know?

I tend to agree with you in part; the best of us on the track, would still struggle to produce a Max Verstappen outcome; we're for the most part, enthusiasts not professional racing drivers.

However, even though most of us will either never go trackside, or at best go a dozen times a year, many of us buy cars like the CSL or the GT3 for the appeal of having something special. It would be like having a hand written letter from the Queen congratulating you for turning 100 - not many people get to have that honour and privilege, and yes, she did hand write letters to anyone in the Commonwealth who turned 100.

There are those who bought to pose, there are those who bought to enjoy, and those who bought to celebrate a quick buck once they flip the car.

But I seriously doubt there would be many, if any, who would buy a CSL to go into the Ring daily boxing Mohammad Ali (proverbially speaking).

This is a good question and one you can apply to most performance cars. What really is the noticeable difference between a M4C and a M4CSL when driving the car to the store, on a highway, to work, etc. I assume this is the use these cars see most of the time. Of course there are some that will track the CSL and maybe a larger percentage than that of a M4C. I guess there are those with public roads where a car's handling can be tested, but where I live, nothing. Some will say "oh the steering feedback is much better". Is this something you notice only on a race track or is it noticeable during a commute to the office?

Totally agree - max attack on the 'ring is foolish in any car unless you're a racing driver. I will definitely take my car to the track though and have a video or two of me absolutely on it around that track. See how many cars I can get past. In the Cayman R, I was rarely overtaken, so in this, it should be even rarer - may even give a few of the hardcore GT3 guys a run for their money!

You do definitely notice feel on track, it's the thing that gives away what the car is going to do next - Lotus, Caterham and Porsche have superb feel from the steering - means you get a lot of confidence when you're on it. Beemers? Some are good others not so much.

Yeah - I reckon it'll be good to watch. Take a look at this:

The Black Cayman R is me - my mate is videoing behind in his Exige Sprint. He is following my lines to learn the track better. (He's just as fast as me and has raced before). So, I'm spending the first few mins worrying about him and looking for him in my rear view mirror and then I decide that's dumb, I need to focus on what I'm doing - you can see exactly when this happens in the video. Enjoy!

Damn, Hornett

You moved around that track like you were in your mother's womb. Yes, I noticed you looking in your mirror a few times and then really took off.

Seems like you had the perfect day for it as well, nice and sunny with only a few bugs on the road (and only got overtaken twice)

You have my utmost respect friend

Thanks, buddy. It really was an awesome day! That's the only time I'd ever been to the 'ring but I got instruction to speed up my learning - by the end of the day, I really knew it - my instructor couldn't believe it. He'd never heard of anybody learning the 'ring in a day - he was in disbelief for the last hour or so. I told him, he was a great instructor (true). I caught the white BMW up after I stopped worrying about my friend - he was really fast - no idea what he was running - my R was stock at the time. 'Ring track record for a Cayman R is 8.05, my instructor said that he reckoned I easily cracked 9mins for the full lap, which I was really pleased with.

Some serious driving skills there

Your instructor must have thought to himself, "At last, someone who gets it".

Well done

One of the most wonderful parts of the video was the sound of the engine in the straights - pure joy

You do definitely notice feel on track, it's the thing that gives away what the car is going to do next - Lotus, Caterham and Porsche have superb feel from the steering - means you get a lot of confidence when you're on it. Beemers? Some are good others not so much.
So someone like me will not notice the difference in steering between cars with or without this "steering feel". That is kind of what I thought.
Hmmm… I think that you need to try a car with exceptional feel and see if you can tell the difference. I reckon you would be able to. My 997.2 GTS had awesome feel, you get a real sense of what is going on with the road, how much grip is available and how much you can lean on the tyres. Even at slow speeds you can feel this.
