Sorry, I think your emotions are getting in your way of making the decision and rightfully so. Waiting so long for a vehicle only to say no really sucks.

The right decision that you know as well is to walk away. You won't be satisfied with it. Waiting for another one would take long so it that doesn't work, I'd look for a new M4 off the lot.

If this would have happened during shipping or at the port you never even would have been told about it. It would have been fixed and delivered.

It sucks big time but overall it is minor. Have them fix it and if it looks good take the extra $500 off and be on your way.

A lot of us don't realize our cars have some damage that's corrected at the port and it's not disclosed to us. I think sometimes we get to emotional about material things. Ask for 1k and see what they say and inspect the car after repair to see if it's acceptable. As soon aa you take delivery someone can smack into it at the store and pull off and you are stuck with fixing it out of pocket.
Damn if I would wait all of this tome for my car and turn it away and get back in line again.

I agree with this wholeheartedly because I had the same thing happen to me but it was the rear bumper (not my M4, car in the past). The dealer tried to paint it and it didn’t look good, you could see the difference.

As others said, let them fix it first and then review. Also bring another person with you to have a second opinion if needed when you review their work. Have the dealer park the car in the sun and the shade so you see different perspectives.

As others have stated, damage occurs pre delivery and we never know about it. We don’t own the car until the paperwork is signed.

Does knowing that the car was scraped bother you? If so, pass on this one and place another order.

If it’s not that big of a deal to you, figure out what you would value (discount, ppf, maintenance program, etc.) and ask for that. Do consider that while it appears that the dealership is trying to be accommodating, they can just cancel the deal and likely save some money (make more on the sale) so they would likely have some reasonable limit on what they will do (how good of a customer also factors in).

Bottom line you have no leverage. Car will be sold to someone on the waiting list as soon as the paint dries.

Big operations at the ports where shipping damage from Europe is fixed before they get on a trucks to the dealers.

Stuff happens. A lot of time you don’t know about it. I’ve had a bumper painted by the dealers preferred auto shop before on one that the clear coat was coming off, black sapphire metallic. matched perfect and 7 years later no difference. It depends on the quality of the work done. I would ask for an unlimited warranty on the bumper paint and take it if it matches perfect. If it’s not perfect, then just ask for another car. No reason to be crazy about it, the dealer is trying to do the right thing.

Couple things here, the shop will only put color in the damaged repair area, blend it out and then full clear coat the rest of the bumper. So it will have a factory match everywhere else. The bumper to fender section is a very small butt match so I wouldn’t stress it too much.

Keep in mind all iomg bumpers are off color from the factory and it’s extremely noticeable on the rear bumper when looking at it from a side profile

I ordered my car, had the M sport suspension installed at port, and let’s just say I made it about 150 miles until something drastic happened. Long story short my dealer took care of me and after about a week I got over the fact that I had a few new parts installed.

I had to have my front bumper repainted on my brand new 24. It wasn’t damaged during transit but rather bmw qc missed the barley covered paint around my grille. My dealer is an authorized bmw repair facility and they did a great job with the bumper. Though mine is alpine white which is much easier to match than isle green.

like others have mentioned, its not the end of the world. you may have a little bit of leverage but at the end of the day if you dont take it, they'll repair it and sell it to the next guy without even disclosing it. So i'd push to make that $500 double to $1k and move on with life. it looks minor and i'm sure you'll never notice the repair. its a car.

He is not being forced to buy the car he can just walk away from it. He is not only getting the car fixed for free but getting an additional $500. Things happens in life regardless of how long you wait for the car. Just like the ship that caught on fire because of an EV. What about all of those people who waited months for their car.

As for getting more money from the dealer... I'm sure they can fix the car and sell it without the $500 discount to someone else. As has been said... cars are fixed all the time at the port and dealerships and the customers never know about it.

Agreed - But even if he walks away from and gets a different new car he can drive off the lot and have someone hit it like that or you could do it yourself. The insurance will not give you a new car and will only pay to fix it with no $500 bonus. I agree that it spoils the experience of buying a new car but such is life. It's a cruel world and the only way a car will stay perfect is if you lock it in a garage. Even then it could get damaged. I am a perfectionist and numerous times have had to get over it with a new vehicle.
