Dealers aren't marking up financing rates. That's set directly from BMWFS, they have no control over them. If you're not getting 4.99% you're, for some reason, not in their highest credit category.

There are very few people who qualify for it, from what I understand. If you pay off your loans early, you're less likely to get it, for ex.

EDIT: I'm wrong apparently, shady af kickbacks afoot.

Thanks. As it was explained to me, the dealer is allowed to mark up the base rate and most are on doing so. My credit is 800+, maybe I need to negotiate no mark up.

BMW dealers absolutely can and do mark up financing rates and it is permitted by bmw financial services, up a limit of
1 or 2 % (I forget exactly which). Regardless of qualification.

How does this work? Are they getting a kickback from FS for this? The interest is accrued and payments go directly to FS so I'm not even sure how marking up an interest rate when the payments don't even go to them is advantageous to the dealer.

Yes exactly, dealers make money on financing by getting kickbacks from the lender when they get paid for the car, this is why they typically don’t want you paying the car off before a certain time period, usually 3 months. If you do that you cause them to lose their finance profit. I’m sure the specific arrangements vary with different lenders but generally that’s how it’s working.

Are they required to disclose the markup at any point in the contract/other documentation?

Afaik not required almost unilaterally, a few exceptions may exist for example I believe NYC has some specific legislation that requires a disclosure.

So that 3-month rule on not paying it off fully prior if financed, do they have any limitations on putting a large down payment at time of purchase?

My intention is to finance but put a large down payment on the car, then pay off the rest within 6-12 months.

No limitation to your down payment. The minimum finance amount is $7500 for BMWNA.

If you can wait about 2 weeks I should have my car by then. I got buckets for it. It's an M4, but the buckets are the same in that regard, into difference is mine fold forward because it as 2 door.

Might be too long unfortunately. Dealer told me I had a week to make changes it’s been a few days now

I'm 6'3" 235. Sitting in the seats for a short time they were unbelievably comfortable. If it is a track/weekend toy they are 100% worth it. Unfortunately, getting in and out of them (low car, my big body, high bolsters) is really really challenging. I'm going to have the car as a daily so the buckets are a non starter for me. Once you're in the seat it's like your bolted in and super comfortable, but the idea of getting in and out 4-6X a day was a big no.

6'2", 220 here and agree 100%. I'm taller in the torso (32" inseam) so the aperature between the seat and roof is always a pinch point for me getting in and out of any car. Couple that with the fact that I like to really extend the wheel given my height and the extra height of the bolsters is a super PITA. There isn't a lot of space between the bolster and the wheel for my legs to slip through. The owner whose car I sat in said that he reserves memory position 2 with the seat all the way back, and then he manually adjusts the wheel each time he got in and out. That won't work for me given that I have kids who are often in the back, and I'm also psycho about having the wheel in the same spot. I used to hate in my GTI when someone would change the wheel location and I'd spend a week trying to remember if I got it back in the right spot. And since I'm getting rid of a 911 to go to the G80 primarily because I want a car that's easier to deal with, it was a no brainer to skip the buckets. Especially since my garage is tight and I have trouble getting out of ANY car since I can't open the door very wide.

If you're willing to deal with the difficultly of ingress (and don't let anyone tell you "you get used to it" it's still going to be a process) then they ARE very comfortable for sure. I didn't feel that they pinched my hips or thighs at all which is not something I can say about all seats, even ones with less bolstering. They are certainly more roomy than say the Mustang's Recaros.
