I didn’t want to create a new thread for this question and my google skills have failed me, so I posting here.

Is there any potential harm in using one of these valve controllers and keeping the valves 100% open, all the time?

I don’t plan on getting a new exhaust setup any time soon, so I’m interested in one of these or open to other suggestions on how to improve the G8X’s sound.

Any info is appreciated!

No harm keeping 100% time open. All it does is makes it more of straight pipe rather then sending it to the muffler.

You rock, brother. Thank you.

I read a lot of threads on options. What’s your brand of choice?

I have Dahler but many on this forum have SST and it’s cheaper and does same thing (plus an extra option). So ur choice I would say get cheaper one since no added benefit from Dahler and looks like SST been very reliable for people as well.

I use the Mode valve controller. I love it because I can let the valve function normally or I can force it open or close by setting certain parameters such as speed, Rpm’s, etc. best of all I don’t need a remote, it’s Bluetooth compatible with my phone.

I currently have two favorite settings saved:
  1. Comfort - valve open and closes based on OEM settings
  2. Dynamic - valves are always open

This works for me just fine but I could setup more favorites if I wanted to.

How does this install? It says plug & play, but can you give more details?

Does the iOS app support siri shortcuts? Would be annoying to have to take out of my phone each time I want to change something...

Speaking of “plug and play,” who is king in terms of ease of install?

I’m down for whichever is least invasive. lol

You'll have silent codes but no check engine light.

SST as others have stated--

Here is my post from the SST thread which I just installed on Saturday on my 3rd G80. I should have done this crap on the other two.

Quote:
Installed!!!

Stipulations:

ER Mid Pipe (no 2ndary cats or resonators) so my comments are before the SST and after with the ER installed.

Sport Plus Mode (this is the only mode I use)

From Start: the rumble and decibels are more prevalent- maybe 20 percent but obviously not an empirical comment.

WOT: its louder for sure and the up shift barks are more pronouced.

Low RPM cruising: the burbles and pops are elevated in decibels and more pronounced. Just a soft throttle tap to 2200 rpms gets the rumbles on-- LOL

Mid RPM cruising: there might be a slight increase in exhaust tone (I wont say drone cause I like it) in 4th and 5th gear but its the cool style of increase IMHO.

High RPM runs: its louder - not much else to say here- by about 20 percent.

Standstill Revs: actually this is where its not as noticeable to me. Yes I can still but its not as emphatic as the changes I notated above.

For me, easily worth the price of admission and I programmed the homelink buttons for fully open and OEM. If want a quiet start, I push button 3 pre start and turn the valve button off and its purring kitten. Then when I leave the neighborhood I push button 2 and its lights out!!

Install on a rack took about 20 minutes all in (rack to derack) so no issues there. We installed the unit in the rubber bucket behind the driver's side rear wheel (no trunk for me).

No placebo thoughts here, I took the car thru my normal local tunnels and gunned it and low rpm throttle tapped it multiple times; its a louder mother fucker

No codes (or keychain remotes) with Awron CANFlap kit. All 100% OEM integration.

No codes for the SST controller. Completely plug and play, much easier installation than other controllers.

Although I have a new Valvetronic exhaust the valves are still OEM. There is a harness that you plug into the car that allows for Bluetooth connection to your phone. The valves can then be forced open or closed with the app. The trick is to ensure that you put the proper tension on the valve springs which will rattle if not tensioned correctly, mainly in the closed position. I also had to make sure my phone had the latest update or the controller will not show up in your Bluetooth.

With respect to the Siri Shortcuts, I created a shortcut that plays my favorite playlist, opens the valve app and my Dahler throttle controller. Unfortunately, I haven’t figured out how to make it automatically open the app in the valve open preset. I currently still have to tap between OEM and full open presets. Then again, I’m only a beginner with the shortcut app. If anyone has a better way to program functions I would be very interested in learning.

Hope this helps!

+1

If you are looking for a valve controller to open or close the valves at 100% or to keep them at 50%, SST is the best option. its the best priced one with a straight forward installation.

There is no need to spend more or go through complicated installs unless you are looking for more features.

Hi all snd sorry for opening an old thread.
I'm UK based and can't find anyone who stocks the SST valve controller. Surely there is a market for them in the UK.

Any ideas anyone.. thanks in advance... pick my toy up next Monday and would love to get this installed right away...

Our controller is as simple as:

1.Unplugging both connectors from the valve motors and plugging one of them into our harness. The other gets Capped with a dummy plug.

2.Plug in our male connectors into your motors.

3. Mount our box via the rubber gasket hole in your trunk or mount it beneath the vehicle.

4. zip tie and tidy up any hanging wires or loose wires.

5. Start controlling: Use the remote or sync through your homelink.
