I run winter tires from November through April, so I’m as picky about what’s on the car in winter as in summer — if not more so. I’m going with Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 tires (275/35R19) on (4) front 825M rims (two coming with the car, two purchased through the dealer). 15mm spacers will get the 9.5x19 rims to almost the stock inner AND outer clearance of the 10.5x20 OEM rims (2mm more inner, 2mm less outer, to be exact).

I prefer not to deal with spacers and I definitely do not want to pay OEM prices for winter wheels. Hoping for some decent aftermarket options in a few months. Guys, please keep posting if you find anything.

This was my M3’s predecessor after plowing through 15” of virgin snow for the last half mile of its maiden trip home a few years ago. (And why all seasons don’t cut it, out where we live!)

I'll be there tomorrow at 1 for them to scan my car and photograph it. They'll probably still want an M3.

That's great to hear, maybe they'll have some options out there soon than for these cars. They had mentioned a discount for being a donor previously, so hopefully they make good on something like that for you.

I'll be going back next week so they can photograph my car, didn't have the team there today to do that. But they did scan, so they should have some wheel fitment guides and winter tire combos populated on the site in the next few weeks, at least for the standard brakes. |

Does anyone see concern mounting a 275/35-19 tire on the rear 824M wheel (10.5 x 19)?
285 is the ideal tire width. However, squeezing a 275 on the rear will allow me to run Sottozero 3 all around (275/40-18 upfront). Thoughts? |

That should work, as it's only 10mm narrower. Only consideration is you'll have less rubber poking out from the rim, so be mindful of curbs.

I’ve had a few sets of Blizzaks over the years, and their ice/snow performance is stellar. Only downside is noise: they’re noticeably louder than Michelins on dry or wet pavement (which, to be honest, is what I drive on 80% of the time in winter Up North). If you don’t mind a little droning, Blizzaks are hard to beat.

Looks like the OEM tire/rim set I listed a while back in the thread below is no longer being sold? I would like to believe it's just a stocking issue, but the website doesn't explain it that way. If that is true then it sounds like I'll be in a similar boat as the rest of you trying to find a rim and tire set before the winter.

Is there actually a difference in wheels for RWD and AWD models?

No, there’s no difference for rims on RWD vs. AWD G8x models.
I ordered an extra set of front (9.5”) 825M rims, and they arrived in a week (including valve stems and TPMS sensors). |

Except for the 825/6M wheels + Sottozero III tires there are no OEM sized winter performance options for the G8x. what you really want are the 824M wheels to cope with winter potholes but also no winter tires exists. Maybe BMW wants you to purchase their winter setup. for those that run a dedicated summer/track set-up it's a shame to not put the OEM wheels to good use as a winter set.
This gripe may cause me to keep my F80 and abandon my G80 allocation, at least for the time being. For off-season inspiration here is my F80 w/ 437M wheels + Vredestein Wintrac Pro in OEM sized tires. (nannies off, always). |
