The G80 is too big a car to be about a Manual. It is a luxury fast cruiser so an auto box makes more sense. How many E60 or F10 M5s were sold manual ?? Very few.
The CS trim level on the G80 and new M5 isnt logical to me on an otherwise large blistering fast luxo cruiser. Stick with the competition package and call it a day. |

Maybe OP is right and the G80 CS should actually be a 6MT stripped out lightweight. Unless of course BMWNA decides it needs minvan window shades like they did on the F80CS. SMH: |

Actually they don’t. Porsche only offer MT in their lower torque engine variants.

The limitation in torque it can handle is very real. The current emission rules make MT also entirely obsolete. A satisfying direct shift and small travel clutch is extremely difficult to realise with high output since it's all mechanical and assisting it mechatronically renders the feeling numb and synthetic. Chances for a MT CS are lower than that the earth implodes tomorrow. |

Porsche offers the 4.0L 991.2 GT3 with 500 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque in manual. Let's see what the 992 GT3 will bring.

I'd like to see a 6 speed option offered on the CS but BMW would have a tough time selling more than a few hundred units in the states.
We forget that a majority of this car's target market have never had the opportunity to learn how to drive a 6 speed. |

The M4 is now more of a GT car. It will have more usable back seats, an automatic transmission, softer suspension, cheaper brakes. Plus it has new tech and most importantly, you can service it at a BMW dealership where you can get a X1 loaner.

I just can't get motivated to buy a driver's car that doesn't have a manual option. Tried it once and hated it. Probably won't have a choice in 10 years.

It's more about torque limitations, not power. Higher torque GT500 and ZR1 are auto only. BMW might not want to invest in the development of the MT...

Bottom line is, it depends on how well the steering and suspension are sorted out. I think the G80 manual is going to be totally fine. BMW has had decades of building M3 manuals. I trust they know what they are doing. |
