My current (2nd) G82 is officially my 15th vehicle.
Here they are in order: 1. 2003 Toyota Highlander 2. 2008 BMW 128i 3. 2008 BMW 328i 4. 2012 VW Passat 5. 2012 Infiniti G37X Coupe 6. 2018 Audi A5 Sportback (APR tuned / 032 Motorsport Mods) 7. 2017 991.2 Carrera (PDK) 8. 2020 Audi Q8 (Dragon Orange / S-Line / Black Optics) 9. 2021 Yukon AT4 10. 2021 Audi Q7 (Prestige / S-Line / Black Optics) - best daily I've ever had, should never have sold) 11. '21 G82 Comp - AW 12. 2022 Polestar 2 13. 2015 Escalade - Bought as a road trip beater and only lasted 6 months due to blown engine. 14. 2022 Yukon Denali 15. 2021 G82 Comp - IOMG My perfect garage combo of the lot would be the 21 Q7 and my AW G82. Still haven't fallen in love with the current IOMG the way I hoped. The M4s and the single 911 are neck and neck as far as performance and driving experience, I just appreciate the usability of the M4 over the 911. Will keep the current M4 until 992 prices come down to earth.

My M3 is my 18th car, though over a longer time period than some of the replies.
From 1987 until now. The Junkers, $1500 or less spent on each car (not adjusted for inflation): 1973 Chevy Malibu - killed by a dead transmission after 3 months 1976 Buick Regal - killed by a guy who ran a red light, slid across the road and hit me while I was stopped 1975 Olds Cutlass - killed by utterly rusting out. Last Automatic until 2013. Owned for 3 months in late '89 1980 Chevy Malibu - killed by many things 1980 Pontiac Phoenix - killed by being utterly terrible 1980 Subaru DL - Exhaust broke, more expensive than replacing the car 1985 Nissan 200SX - first fun car, most expensive of the Junkers by $1000. Killed by trying to turn it on after a record freeze in Minnesota 1983 Toyota Celica GT-S - killed by leaking every fluid and just being done Cars I paid payments on/non-Junkers: 1994 Honda Civic DX Coupe - bought used in 1995. My introduction to cars that actually start every day...which was neat 1995 Acura Integra GS-R - bought used in early 1998. First really fun car, my greatest bit of car nostalgia. I put 100k on it in 3 years and then traded it in. In many ways, I have missed this car every single day until the G80. 2002 Acura RSX-S - First lease, which was sort of accidental...first new car. I got a batshit great deal on it as I bought it a week after 9/11 and they hadn't sold a car in that entire week. It may have been faster than the GS-R, and newer, but it was not a better car overall than the GS-R 2006 Acura RSX-S - Bought after lease turn in, the slight updates were a huge improvement. Longest ownership term (Oct 05 to Mar 13). Harsh suspension and torque steer drove me to change up my driving life, sending me to the local BMW dealer randomly on a rainy March evening. 2010 BMW 328ix - Such a mistake. Never buy a car at night and never forget to ask where a used car spent most of it's life. Even outside the problems it had, there were many things about the E90 chassis that I did like and may things that I deeply did not. 2013 BMW 328ix - Leased new. A much better ownership experience overall, and I do not view the F30's as negatively as some folk do, but still good and bad like the base E90. The base seats were SO bad... 2016 BMW 340ix - Leased new. Wonderful all-around car, the best car I'd had to this point. And now I understand the glory that is BMW inline 6's. But it was a bit boring...almost too competent. 2019 BMW M2C DCT - My intro to owning an M. It was a transformative experience tempered by the slow realization that I really hated not driving a manual. It always felt quite cheap inside vs. my 340i. It was under-tired from the factory, which I fixed. The S55 was magnificent, except it was a bit of an on/off switch of an engine. With ASD off, I couldn't hear shift points with music playing even at low volumes so I over-spent on a replacement exhaust. I spent OODLES making the sound system tolerable. After everything I did to it, it was a wonderful car to drive other than verging on being too stiff. Other than not being a manual. Pure chance led me to trading it in on the first G80 that my local dealership let loose when the embargo expired 2021 BMW M3 6MT - Back to a manual after almost 8 years. The S58 is a proper enthusiast engine rather than an on/off switch. The interior never feels cheap from the drivers' seat, despite not having full leather. This car is the best balance of sport and daily-driver capabilities that I've personally ever gotten to enjoy. At 21 months into owning the car, I smile EVERY time I push the start button. Terrible traffic in the rain or sunny open roads, this car never fails to make me happy. It took me 8 years to find the RIGHT BMW. It's the first car I've owned in this century that doesn't make me miss the Integra GS-R. As it stands, there isn't a car that I want to trade this one for. Nothing else that's sold and in my price-range would work as a replacement for it other than finding ANOTHER one or a CT4-V BW if one could be found. I honestly do not see any other vehicle that would give me what I want out of a one-car ownership experience. Last edited by bri1042; 11-30-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

But anyway, a lot of what you said about your G80 is what I'm feeling about my G82. The manual transmission really is a lot more important to me for car ownership than I had given it credit for. On the list of cars I've owned, some have been manual and some of have been autos. I just enjoy driving a manual transmission the most though, and until now I had never had a manual in a car with the level of tech and luxury as my G82. This car is a combination of what I liked about my manual sports cars and also what I liked about some of my more luxury sport sedans and coupes. Plus I finally got my favorite color combo with the black exterior and fiona red interior. Given my history, it's too early to say "this is a keeper" but I can say it hits the notes that I've been missing for a long time. Last edited by vbb; 11-30-2022 at 09:35 PM.. |

First off, reading this list makes me feel much better about my car ADD. Have had around 20 BMW's over the years plus a lot of other vehicles as well. For M cars, have had the last several versions of the M3/4 and several versions of the M5.
In terms of stack rank the G80 was up there for me. Felt like a modern day version of the E39 M5. Not too small, not too big, fun in the corners, great looks that still fly under the radar and plenty of power. Other cars that are high on my list; S2000 - Literally a street legal kart '85 911 - The full experience, smell, steering feel, looks, sound. My biggest automotive regret is selling this car. Bought mine for $18K with 88k miles around 2010. Guards Red with sport seats, after market exhaust and Wong chip. Sold it a year later for $18K because I was at a point in life where I didn't have time to enjoy it. Stupid, stupid, stupid decision. Civic TypeR - Hard to find a better daily driver. Best handling FWD car ever, always felt quick enough, best stock seats made to date (yes better than carbon buckets from Porsche and BMW) and rear seats that can fit real size adults. If you haven't driven one, go figure out how to try one. If I can find a new one with a reasonable ADM I will most likely buy another. Best grocery getter ever. |

Awesome thread very cool to see the differences in ownership and how it ends up stacked next to the M3
Ill say my top 5 here and save the not so fun 5. G80 M3CX 4. M2 3. F90 M5C 2. GT-R 1. 991.1 GT3 The M2 and M5 can probably switch places, they are two totally different cars in two different times in my life (with and without kids) but they are both just as good as each other for what they were intended to do in my opinion. My GT-R was incredible because of how raw it was and how reliable it was even with close to 900 whp. The GT3 imo is just on another level but could not be a daily driver because the buckets and NJ weather. The GT-R on the other hand was a daily beast. Im not happy my brother crashed it as a total loss I hope to be able to get another one in the future. The amount of mods you can do and the journey of it was an experience I loved. My G80 is 5th because it did not drive as spirited as the M2 with much worse steering IMO and was not as great of a daily as my current M5. |

Out of the sports cars I’ve owned, the E90 M3 is the most special and most memorable, mainly because of the engine and that it was a manual. The most thrilling car I’ve owned is hands down the G80. Complete monster and limits I’ll likely never experience.
My quick rundown of sports cars over the last 20’ish years: 1) ‘03 S2000 2) ‘06 S2000 3) ‘09 S2000 4) ‘08 S2000 5) ‘12 STi 6) ‘14 NISMO 370Z 7) ‘11 E90 M3 8) ‘21 M3 Comp (current) I was an S2000 fanatic. I should have skipped the Subaru and Nissan and gone straight to the M. Both the STi and 370 were soulless rental cars, no joke. Didn’t have those for long. The E90 wasn’t much to look at honestly, but I loved that car dearly. Regret selling it. And while I’m coming up on 2 years of ownership on my G80, and it is the absolute perfect dual purpose car, I’m always casually looking for replacements. Likely going back a generation? An M4 GTS would be perfect, although I doubt it would make a good daily. |

My sports/sporty cars owned over the last 17 years are
2004 S2000 2007 BMW 335i 2005 S2000 (with an aftermarket turbo kit) 2009 Lexus ISF 2009 Porsche 911 C2 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo 2015 Mustang GT 2015 Porsche Cayman 2009 Porsche Boxster 2015 Lexus RCF 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF 2017 Corvette Stingray 2022 BMW M4 As mentioned in the first post, the ISF and the 335i hung around the longest. The Boxster and the Mustang were the cars I had the shortest amount of time. I can say positive things about every car on my list and am happy to have had the variety so I can truly know what I'm looking for. |

Have owned/driven/tracked/raced every M3/4 variation since the original (and quite a few other non M BMWs) over the last 25 years and the G80 is the best combination so far of a great street driving car that can keep me engaged on track on the weekends. Is it the best track weapon or the most luxurious highway cruiser? No, but it's probably the best all rounder available on the market right now.

I would say my top performance/enthusiast cars owned are as follows: 1. 991.2 Carrera T (manual) 2. CT4-V Blackwing (manual) 3. Z4M Coupe (manual) 4. E46 M3 (SMG ) 5. 135i (manual, tuned) 6. Panamera ehybrid 7. S550 Mustang GT (manual, tuned) 8. BRZ (manual) 9. Taycan 10. Mini Cooper S (tuned) 11. GTI (tuned) Owned a few more boring beaters and trucks but not worth mentioning. Currently driving the Blackwing after going back and forth with the idea of going with a G80X and the G87 (got tired of waiting for allocations for both and was interested in a Jahre but dealer wanted $10k over - pass). Got my car under sticker (rare for the BW), and no regrets. |

Let me qualify that original statement. I felt that my 2007 BMW 335i with the sport package had the perfect steering feel, and I preferred it even to the steering feel in my 2009 911 C2 and 2008 911 TT. That is not to say either of those were bad... but it is to say that even on a non-M BMW, I thought the steering feel was perfect. The 911s had a far better chassis. I am not comparing my 2022 M4 to anything new out of Porsche, in large part because I haven't driven anything newer than 2015 out of Porsche. |

I've owned quite a few cars and currently have a second generation R8 V10+ and manual M3. I think both will stick around for a while, especially the G80. There just aren't many options out there for a 6MT 4-door so that gives it some staying power. I could even see myself ordering another G80 closer to the end of the run to replace this one.
The V10 of course marks the end of an era so I can see myself holding on to it for a while. As far as cars that really stood out to me... my AP2 S2000 and my GT350. I regret selling both of them. I sold the GT350 for the M3, which is a bit of a bummer looking back. The GT350 is full of soul. Amazing engine and sound, great chassis, fantastic drivers car. The G80 is numb and lifeless in comparison. But it makes up for it in other ways... a jack of all trades of sorts. I'll probably pick up another GT350 in the future.

Feel may be ever so slightly lacking (splitting hairs) vs. a hydraulic rack, but response and precision are better in the new Porsche electric racks. |

I got to spend some time in a 911 GTS at the Porsche GTS track experience and thought the steering was great. I had nothing but praise for it. G80 felt extra numb driving home from the track.

Gawd, that was one of the most disappointing cars I've owned. I replaced it with a 981 Boxster S, just worlds better... Anyway, as for BMWs, you can count them all in my sig, below, plus the two current ones. In total, I've owned 63 cars and 12+ motorcycles, it's a sickness. The G8x platform is just phenomenal.

991.2 gt3 manual
458 italia toyota 86 e46 m3 f87 m2c dct f80 m3 6mt r35 gtr e36 m3 (neutered us spec) f30 335i msport i make the list just based on my personal wants if i was locked on an island with perfect roads and no need for luggage, passengers, no showing off, etc. what car would i grab the keys for to just have fun on a summer day, driving with no destination in mind. i prefer lightweight NA manuals cars over heavy auto turbo stuff though. i'd imagine the g82 is a hybrid between the f80 and gtr. i still have the m2c to daily and its exactly what i want for that role.

You'd NEVER know the Porsches were EPS. And drive a GT car, it's literally better than ANY hydraulic I have ever driven with the exception of Porsche themselves.
