Thanks, and happy to be here! The OEM ebrake is integrated into the rear caliper. We don't have that type of caliper at our disposal, so our implementation would have to be separate ebrake caliper. Finding the space for that caliper is a serious challenge.

If you are going to design a EPB rear caliper kit, then I would suggest a design that reuses the OEM actuator already in the car and not a generic actuator like other brake manufacturers use. Much cheaper, and keep the OEM actuator electronics and warranty.

And if you can design a rear multi-piston caliper with an integrated OEM actuator in a single body, instead of a dual-caliper setup, then it will be the best solution.

Would you still purchase our rear brake kit if it eliminated the parking brake?

For those of you with the Competition models which have the ZF auto transmission, I'm assuming you wouldn't care too much about the parking brake?

What about those of you with a manual transmission?

We've eliminated the parking brake on some of our systems in the past, and have had great success with those systems. Many of our clients view the parking brake as dead weight, and don't see much need for it anyway. If we add an additional parking brake caliper on either side of the car, that is going to add a considerable amount of weight.

Thoughts and opinions gents?

Thank you very much for your input!

Thank you very much for the input. When approaching this sort of thing we always have to balance what we'd like to do vs. what is practical vs. what is reasonably cost-effective. The big problem with a multi-piston rear caliper with an integrated parking brake is its cost relative to its application. If we knew we'd be able to use it on every vehicle released for the next ten years, that would make the decision easy. Unfortunately, we're designing brake kits for a huge variety of vehicles from different manufacturers, and they're all using a different approach. One has a setup like these cars, the next has a seperate parking brake caliper with the primary caliper on the leading side of the disc. The next has the primary caliper on the trailing side of the disc. The next still uses a drum-in-hat parking brake. Every vehicle is different, as is the packaging around the brakes based on suspension, where the engine (or motor) is, etc. Electronic parking brakes have made things extremely messy and challenging for us.

I have been driving in Florida for 60 years and I have never ever felt the need to use the EPB. Superfluous it is. That said, I know that you have to design for the larger market, and not just "Florida Man" so the elimination of the EPB is probably not in the offing. I am very much looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the rears. They are the Achilles heel of these cars on a track. The issue is not compound so much, but size. Asking something the size of a silver dollar to deliver longevity is something even Yoda would struggle with. In this case size does matter. Carry on.

Isn't it possible to custom fit the AP Radi-cal or Pro 5000r G20 M340i rear brake set with the E-brake onto the G8X rears?

This is exciting stuff. The weight savings alone on the fronts is tremendous. Hoping we'll see some crafty e-brake integration soon.

We actually don't currently offer a system for that vehicle.

Do y’all have any guidance on fitment of the 9668 fitting under the OEM 825M wheels? I know there is the fitment template online but seeing if y’all have any experience one way or another on the “less popular” wheel…

Haha...no worries. The trouble with text is that there isn't any other context. Sometimes the intended message is lost.

We each have our own unique ways in which we use our cars. Some people need a parking brake, others don't. That's just a reality of the situation. We totally get that. I'm just trying to get some additional insight into what that situation looks like with this specific car, so we can provide the most appropriate solution for the greatest number of owners.

I unfortunately do not. The car we had in to measure had the 826M style wheels. Would you be willing to help us by checking the wheel fitment template? If so, we'd really appreciate it! We can then add it to our database so other fellow enthusiasts can benefit from that knowledge. For some of our older brake kits, we have over 100 confirmed wheels that fit. Since we're just getting rolling with the G80 however, we only have the one OEM wheel confirmed at this point.

The wheel fitment template for the CP9668 Kit is below:
https://www.essexparts.com/storage/w...l_template.pdf

To use it, you print it, check a measurement with a ruler to ensure it printed to scale (printers always do wonky scaling things), then you tape or glue it to a piece of cardboard or a manila folder. Then you place it inside the wheel as shown below. We provide these wheel fitment templates for every brake kit we offer. Below is a short video on how to find the template when looking at the brake kits on our website. Thanks!

Ooops...I lied...we do have more than one confirmed wheel fitment! Our friends at APEX Wheels just verified that pretty much all of their wheel options for the G80 M3 will clear both of our front CP9660 and CP9668 AP Racing by Essex Radi-CAL Brake Kits without a spacer!

List below with links:

APEX SM-10 19x9.5" +25 (flow formed)
APEX SM-10RS 19x9.5" +25 (forged) They're having a group buy on these now
APEX VS-5RS 19x9.5" +25 (forged)
APEX VS-5RS 19x10" +12 (forged)
APEX VS-5RS 20x10" +8 (forged)

The APEX front wheels in 19" sizes weigh about 19-20 lbs...extremely lightweight. For example, their 19x9.5 VS-5RS weighs 19.1 lbs. vs. 24 lbs. for the OEM 825M or 826M front wheels (5 lbs. per wheel). So if you take the 20 or so lbs. from our brake kit, combined with the front wheel savings, you're looking at shaving about 30 unsprung lbs. off the nose.

Here's a look at what the APEX SM10-RS wheels look like over our Radi-CAL Brakes. Please pardon my posting a Camaro on the M3 forum!

Update: We are pursuing both a non-parking brake rear kit, and a version that has a parking brake. We have the prototype components created and are looking to bring a car in to test fit those parts within the next two weeks.

This is fantastic news. As a manual transmission owner I would need a parking brake feature but want this brake kit front and rear, badly! I also can't think of any other way to get the beautiful gold-tinged nickel plated color to match in the front and rear. It also really helps cater to a crowd that would like to be able to take their car to the track one day, but then drive it on the street on the other. That does happen quite often.

That product with parking brake compatibility is a must IMO! Really awesome that you're offering both though. Big props.
