This is the trend I've seen with other cars that have complained about similar noises. Even after having steering racks being replaced, the sound would return within 1k miles.

This sounds just like mine. I'm at 14k miles now, and I've noticed it increases in noise during the summer. Nearly silent through the winter.

Crazy we're starting to see more of these coming forward. I'm really set on it being the steering rack.
Let's keep each other posted…disheartening for sure.

Agreed. Not worth them digging around on my car at this point. We will see if it gets worse.

2022 G80 M3 Comp XDrive, also hearing this noise on both sides when changing lanes and hitting those bumps. Much more noticeable when going 65 mph+. Completely stock, only 800 miles

Mine does this too.

I also get slight knocking noise through steering Column when rotating the wheel.(100%)

A thump sound if I hit a speed bump quick and straight (10%)

And an odd click sound from front end when down shifting 3-2(10%)

It was near 90° today and I just noticed the knock on slow speed over bumps. I deflated tires since it was warm back to 34psi from 42 psi though it was the issue due to harsh ride but it didn’t help. My assumption is bushings since it was fine on colder days and it symptoms started coming up on hot days??

That sounds about right. My noise will be silent all winter long (30-50 degree F). Now that we’re seeing the 70-80 range, the noise is back.

Do you feel difference in handling? Steering and handling feels little sloppy but it can be my tires since I’m still on a/s tires (winter set) also my car pulls to the left. I didn’t hit any bad potholes or bumps.

Haven’t noticed any difference in handling. I can definitely feel it through the steering wheel, but the car still feels rock solid overall.

I know there’s a open TSIB (Technical Service Info Bulletin) for something you’re describing on multiple G chassis cars, just not sure if your cars may fall under the fix. This isn't a full out recall so it's up to the discretion of your service center.

Also taking a guess that the 23's have been fixed? I'm still waiting for delivery on mine, so crossing fingers I won't have any issues.

I know a few of us are waiting to see people report back if this actually fixes it. I would hope the cars being produced now are getting the updated tie rods on the steering racks.

I have a 23 M3 Comp xDrive and have the same issue. I am on a MSS has kit. 2600 miles on it. I just got the suspension installed and the noise was there.

EDIT: Took it back to the shop and there was a rock in between the brake rotor and dust cover lol .

No noise now .

Reviving this thread - I have a 2023 M3 Comp X Drive, 1800 miles. I recently noticed a fairly loud knocking sound from the front right (I think) at lower speeds, when making left turns and/or going over speed bumps. I have an appt setup for 2 weeks from now (ugh). It has been balls hot here in ATL, so if it is temp related, I guess that would explain it. The roads do suck, but I have tried my best to drive fairly tamely over the worst of them. I hope it can be resolved, because it is going to drive me nuts, and on a car of this price and caliber, I honestly expect better.

Another update on this from me - I took the car in for this issue today. They found one of the shipping blocks was still on the suspension! As disappointing as that is to hear, I'm super grateful that's all it was. Car rides so much better now (I just assumed the harshness was nature of the M3 in comparison to previous non-M cars) and no more clunking!!

This happens so much I literally can’t even find the words to describe my disbelief.

Monkeys.
Trained monkeys would do a better job.

I was going to say. I had a Seat Ibiza Cupra (m.y. 2002) in another life, and did some suspension changes on that.
I had a faint clunking sound as well when steering abruptly. This was the top-mount that kept loosening itself, freeing up about a few mm’s of play in between the body and dish, which in turn caused the sound.

Following this topic anyway, hope OP gets it sorted.

I’ve been facing this same issue in my f97 not the G80s but it’s the exact same noise behind my steering wheel. If I rock the steering wheel left and right I can reproduce the same knocking sound. It’s been like this for a couple of months.

I also had this strange knocking noise coming from my left front corner of my G83 so I searched the forum and found this thread. Mine started around 3,500 miles and I only noticed it when turning and going over speed bumps, etc as well (sounded like it was coming from right above my left front wheel), however car drove fine with the exception of the occasional. Clunk, clunk clunk.

Took the wheel off, checked around and I couldn't find anything in or around the suspension that looked off. It really drove me bananas for a while. I was going to have it checked out in at my next oil service coming up, until this chance finding happened...

I was in the process of removing the engine strut brace to remove the engine cover and one of the bolts fell into the engine compartment between the DME and the cold air Intake. SOB!!

I heard it drop down to the plastic undercarriage liner near the front suspension area, tapped the under liner and heard the bolt bounce around, so I removed the wheel and took off both the wheel liner and the small liner behind the wheel next to the rocker.

2 things stood out when I looked around, my dropped strut brace bolt and 2nd, get ready for it, my side radar unit box was just dangling and hanging there by its wire connectors! It must had become dislodged/ unsecured somehow from it's side retaining compartment box.

Upon careful inspection, I saw that no clips appeared broken in the radar unit retaining box so I just oriented it correctly and slid it in that compartment box and it locked in place with a click. It must have not been locked in place and even just slipped out. WTF

Anywho, put everything back together took it for a spin and nothing! No more tapping, clunking noise since then. Sorry for the long story, but it was a crazy finding. (you can't make this stuff up!!)

If all else fails, check it out!
