The main reason for me not buying an M3 today is due to its size i think the M3 has gone way to big compared to many other cars, i do understand the requirements for safety and such causing its size to swell a bit but not to much.
So therefor i bought my 235i back then because there were only rumors of a M2 nothing more, but yes it was marketed a bit to hard as an 1M successor but not from BMW them self to much but the hype caused by people more then anything, why? well because this was one of their first sports car in a long while going back on its size and bringing a small performance rwd coupé in to the market again so yes many saw it as a direct competition to the 1M, without thinking of the "M" as a whole with the chassi, engine, brakes tuning and yada yada. But if Scott is truly meaning the M-Performance brand is their for the reason to meet regulations of different country ok i guess i can buy that to a bit extend, but how about offering without to much extra cost an aftermarket "Purity" package where people them self can buy an package to bring it to the level of a truly sporty car that won't be beating an true "M" but will outshine the original models by far. A thought i guess. Although this was one of the first BMW of this kind i owned my self i was not disappointed by the car in any regards except one and that was steering, before buying the 235i my last "performance" car was a C30 T5 R-Design granted it had nothing on the 235i cause they were many years apart from each other but the steering as i remember was better on the C30 then it was on my 235i. But as scott26 pinpointed M-Sport is one of the most and biggest selling factors they have on their regular cars, so BMW knows how to sell their cars. Best example i can take is my own sister she owns an X1 20d M-Sport Auto, before placing the order on it i asked her why do you need M-Sport package on the car? You are not aiming to have a sports car in that aspect, but her answer as expected was, It looks good/better then original one. As stated before some people care only for their cars to look good/sporty and gives a shit damn about the performance as long as the car looks good. Maybe M-Sport should just develop the cars with the M-Sport typical look and make it look like that standard then change the M-Performance & the Pure M brand completely to make the car look very different from each other. Idk just some thoughts of mine, other then that before this derails completely i can't wait to see the new M3 when it drops its camo completely to see what's hiding underneath i have a truly hard time seeing thru this camos i guess i am not one of the blessed ones who can "see" the car how it looks even though it has camo. |

And the huge front arch gap, good to see they are continuing the heritage of the F80...
They will then charge you £2000 for a set of lowered springs to remove the gap they created.

Oh please. You sound like Don Cherry. If Norrland and the proper Arctic Circle area of Sweden isn't harsh enough, you may as well go to Russia. Which is in fact colder than Canada.

BMW only increased the HPs minimally between the E9X and F80. I doubt they gonna add 80HP. That means the ZCP will be in F90 territory.

Not sure what's all the whining and complaining about. It's a TEST MULE. It's supposed to be an ugly hack job that's only testing certain aspects, like the new engine/transmission/cooling/heating/ and all that code. The actual product won't be out for another 2-3 years, so stop with whining about the low dangling mufflers, high ride height a sliding brake calipers. They probably slapped the new drivetrain into an old F30 or a regular G20 3 series body to spend minimal $$ instead of worrying about what some keyboard warriors might think about the test mule aestetics. I'm glad they're supposedly focusing on what's important, instead of wasting time on exterior for these test mules

But I really don't think the new car needs more power - I hope they spend more time working on the chassis so that the power is put down to the road more effectively. And wider tires (which should help as well). Oh, and having less intrusive electronic intervention on throttle cut off - I know people say it's better in the ZCP vs. civic, but it's still way too quick to reduce power.

My personal E92 M3 did an average of 311whp (remember that a DD dyno reads lower than a more common Dynojet by roughly 17%) and every single stock F8x we ever tested was over 360whp and had a much, much wider powerband. |

With the M3/M4 they were first to market. Also, as they have done in generations past, they maintained some semblance of class leadership (this time, not by consensus, no, but in the eyes of many reviewers) by keeping weight in check and by offering better driving dynamics. When it comes to an SUV, weight is much more difficult to control. Having an engine that competes in specs becomes more important. So they are going to amp up the S58 a couple notches from the S55. Will they hit 500hp? Maybe not, but expect it to be very close. Also, don’t be surprised to see a two model lineup like Mercedes-AMG does with their “x63 S” upsell model. Perhaps they use the “ZCP” name as they do with their passenger cars, or maybe something new. At any rate, the M3 and M4 will be beneficiaries of that engine development. |

I own a RWD too so, nope, not even close. Is not even a good compromise for winter. Yeah, maybe if you drive from home to your underground parking at work 5 km later, but for true snow you will smash it like is no tomorrow, exactly like the Camaro that was dancing in front of me the other day end ended up in the wall. It took my neighbour one hour to drive the M3 from the street in the garage and that only after he called for help and three people cleaned his fresh snowed driveway. Plus I dont know where you guys go skying there or what 200 m tall hill you have, but here we are going high and deep. I have an E84 X1 for this and is doing a wonderful job. |
