I apologize if this has been answered already.
Would it be safe to install the SST valve controller on a brand new car, during the break-in period?

It's as safe as at 0 miles vs at 50k miles, but most people just don't want to deal with the dealer potentially saying something (it definitely won't void any warranties) so most just wait until after break-in.

You can install it at anytime, its safe and wont cause any issues with warranty.

I just recent had MAD catless downpipes and single midpipe installed on my car (stock muffler). It sounds wicked, but it's louder than I expected. Actually quite considerably louder than my S55 which had an identical down pipe and midpipe setup. I'm looking for a way to seal those valves SHUT 95% of the time while driving.

I see that this product can do that, but cautions against WOT or high speeds when they're permanently closed. I'm surprised to see this is an issue. Can anyone elaborate a bit further? Too much backpressure, etc??

Thanks

SST can keep stock settings, so the valves are closed but automatically open when you are in WOT to avoid any issues.

You can use this setting 95% of the time and the other settings for the remaining 5% of the time.

But then again, I'm not too sure why you would get the SST in your case. if you keep the car stock, it will keep the valve closed, which is what you currently have. The SST will not make it any quieter

Hey Mike, thanks for the response. What I'm mentioning is this setting on this product: "Comfort mode: Flap(s) permanently closed with discreetly restrained sound regardless of driving situation and vehicle settings" Which seems to force the exhaust valves closed, even in Sport+ mode and under wide open throttle. The SST controller seems to be the only product I can find that has four total settings, rather than the typical two (those two being OEM valve control, and forced open)

I'm interested in this product for the exact opposite of most customers, I'm seeking something that will keep my valves closed at all times, unless I manually decide to open them, which is that other 5% of the time I was referring to.

Keeping them closed 100% of the time is not good because of back pressure issues exactly. You could do valve damage if keeping them shut all the time.

+1

you have the option with SST to keep the valves closed at all time but that's not a good idea.

Why would you want the car to be as quiet as possible when you are on wide open throttle?

Can’t get the “hold for 7-8sec” to work, to change the defaults. Have other people gotten it working? You simply hold the remote button, ya? Anything else i can try?

Installed the SST valve controller. Definitely louder and burbles are more distinct. Also programmed it to homelink and works flawlessly. The exhaust is completely stock. Check out the short video comparing closed and open valves.

For my convertible friends out there:

I had my controller installed in the rear bottom "black plastic" compartment (behind the wheel). I was getting intermittent times of non-control when using the homelink buttons. I had to hold the remote behind my seat for it to register.

I took the time to find a better place, and took a look at the battery compartment.

I could see I had a grommet on either side. Lucky!

However, I honestly could not:

a) find a way to pop the grommet out. Those suckers are in there
b) find where they would even exit. Remember, this is a convertible with extra mechanisms and chassis bolt-ons in the way, so it may not have even been usable.

So...off to find another way. Removing the rear wheel liner revealed...another grommet. This one accessible from the trunk area! I pulled it off its setting and found that went right behind the left liner in the trunk! (see installing an addon amp)

This was a perfect location as it gave me *just* enough slack to get one of the connections through the heat shield underneath (use a cable rod fish tool) across to the other side. Was able to zip-tie tuck everything away on a hole or mount somewhere in the area.

Was also able to get the controller zip-tied around the wires and mount points in the area behind the liner shown below. Just a warning, if you're going to use the chassis piece as I did to zip-tie the controller there, use the *further away from you* hole (closer to the front of the car) to tie the zip-tie to, as the one behind it (closer to the rear of the car) is where the retention plug fits into for the liner itself.

A couple pictures below: Happy to answer any questions, feel free to post here or DM!

Great mod, love how seriously simple the installation was.

Seems to work as expected!
