Got a cool past and present shot from this last weekend at VIR full course, all blues too. There was an F82 CS also in blue lined up with us at the start, but they dropped back fairly quickly so they didn't make in frame. Those G80/2s have big pace. |

I saw in the Canadian 2023 Order guide that the M Drive Pro is no longer available as a stand alone option.
I was wondering if you guys who don't have it still have the M mode that's shuts off all safety stuff, screen and switches the cluster display? I think I could live with having only MDM and DSC Off but I want to make sure I don't have the limp, windows up, warning problems.

I guess the only thing of interest I would be missing out is the 10 stage TC, wich is a bit counterintuitive to perfect car control if your relying on it with the throttle mashed. Are aware if the cluster M mode is the same with or without M drive Pro ?

What hot tire pressures are preferred for a M3 xDrive, stock camber on PS4S's?
On my F80 CS with RE71's I used to run 34PSI HOT but on the G80 I am rolling the front tires with those pressures. |

It's difficult without camber. PS4S will chunk if you aren't careful. I've run 36 hot, but neglected to monitor and it chunked at 40.

Pretty bad day at the track today!
Pouring rain. 50F degree weather. Fairly worn PS4S* tires. Very greasy due to first rain in 3 months. 1. I spun out violently coming out of a turn mostly likely applying too much throttle. It felt like the rear just snapped from underneath me. Ended up doing a 360 after probably over correcting. This is with XDrive and MDM. Did not hit anything luckily. Stayed on pavement the whole time. No damage. Heart attack imminent! 2. Two laps later: red flag. Guy in brand new Supra hit the concrete barrier at about 70-80 mph. Severe impact. Front of car completely destroyed and up in smoke. Most likely hit a puddle of water and lost control. Car totaled but driver safe Yeah, pretty bad day. Went home. Don't feel like tracking for a while.

What settings (engine, transmission, chassis, steering, brakes, etc.) are you folks running on track? Here's what I've heard about each option and their ideal settings (if I've heard of a reason not to run the most aggressive setting, I describe it):
Engine: Sport/Sport+. Some people find that Sport+ is too sensitive, and makes it harder to smoothly modulate power. Transmission: S3. It seems uncontroversially better to shift as fast as possible. Chassis: Sport/Sport+. Probably depends on the track, but BMW themselves have said in a video that unless the track is extremely flat, Sport+ is probably too much damping. Steering: Comfort/Sport. Some people feel Sport is too stiff and reduces feel. Brakes: Comfort/Sport. Some people find Sport too sensitive and that it doesn't allow you to modulate brake pressure as easily. M X-Drive: This one is interesting. I can't figure out if 4WD or 4WD Sport nets you better average lap times. In theory, I would imagine 4WD Sport is more fun, but having an intentional rear bias shouldn't produce a faster lap time, so 4WD should be the "fastest" setting. Let me know what y'all run and think! |
