I ordered my 2021 M3 on 4/10/2021 and I am still waiting for allocation. Spoke with the local dealer and I am told that I will be getting a 2022 and hopefully by the end of this year???

I ordered my M4 6MT at the end of March and still waiting for an allocation. My dealer already updated my order to 2022 the first day he could.. Ive been next on the list for a month.
The dealer sold through all the M3/M4s by early May.. and they haven’t really had stock on them since. Maybe 1.. I’m in SoCal

I feel for you guys, I was in the same situation. I placed my order back in March, and at the time I was "1st or 2nd" on the list. Beginning of June he said allocations opened and asked for my specs. But then weeks went by and he couldn't place the order. It was because allocations were so much lower than expected, 1 or 2 even at high volume dealers, and his "actual" 1st or 2nd slot likely went to regular customers or maybe someone paying more than me. My dealer did come through for me 100% right before the end of June but I also never let him off the hook (sent a reminder e-mail or call literally every few days).

Unfortunately your best bet is probably to keep politely hounding your SA so they don't forget about you. It may be worth checking around (literally in neighboring states if you don't mind the trek) to see if there are any dealers who don't have a wait list, but since allocations are short across the board you likely won't get a better slot than you already have.

I would try to get in touch with a broker. They are going to charge you $500-$1,000 for an allocation, but at least you'd have the car, already. I found my allocation, the day before yesterday, ordered yesterday and the allocation is in 112 status, scheduled for build week 31, August 2nd.

You're in SoCal, if you're interested in what I said, in the first part of this post, I know a broker with a 2022 allocation. I found stumbled onto one from a friend, and didn't end up getting the allocation from the broker, but I just talked to him, over email, like 2 hours ago, and he still has it. Pm me if you don't mind paying the broker fee. He's telling me the dealer allocation is in SoCal.

Thank you I called a broker and he found the allocation for me today and I put my order with him and canceled my order from the dealership.

It was MSRP, but with a broker fee.

There is a M3 base in Isle of Man Green, black std leather seats, CF interior, black calipers, and black/silver wheels on the floor at Global BMW in Atlanta. I was told the financing fell through for the individual that had ordered it. I am not affiliated with the dealer -- in fact, ordered my M3 from a different Atlanta dealer.

Thanks. I'm in SC visiting family and this is similar to what I plan to order so I reached out to them today.

Good luck - it was an absolutely beautiful car; the bi-color wheels and black calipers worked perfectly with the color. Let me know if it becomes yours! Best wishes!

How are brokers getting allocations? Are they given to them by the BMW reps? Do they acquire them from the dealerships? It seems strange that my dealer that is supposedly “M dealership “ cannot get one but a broker who is outside of the BMW network can

Brokers don't get allocations, they get wind of an allocation from xx dealer that has an allocation. The advantage of a broker is that they are working with countless dealerships across the country, so if you are first on their list you just need an allocation to come into one of the dealerships they are working with. If you are working with one dealer, then you are the mercy of when they get an allocation, not being screwed by them giving it to someone else etc.

The advantage of a broker is it spreads your chances of an allocation. Like anything you could do it yourself by calling every dealer within a 500 mile radius and getting on their list, but that is a PITA.

Correct. The broker doesn't have the allocation; the broker finds the allocation and negotiates the deal on your behalf.

I had an order placed with a dealer (through a broker) for 4 months with no allocation. One of the largest M dealers in the country. You can read my saga on another thread, but I finally pulled the plug after they couldn't deliver.

Found another broker with a stellar rep who had a buildable allocation. Order placed and my car went into 112 the next day.

Not as great of a deal as my first order, but what's a great deal without getting a car?

Check out leasehackr - plenty of brokers there to research.

Thanks for the responses. What I don’t get is why would the dealer need the broker? If they have an allocation they should have no problem finding a customer themselves. I could understand if it were some other models but a highly sought after one like this doesn’t seem to make sense

I think a dealer would do mostly local business , usually, and a broker can open that up to anywhere in the country. Maybe it's not needed right now for this model but most the brokers aren't just doing M3's. They can offer other BMW models and other makes.

I'm not sure about the relationships or deals between broker and the dealership. If they share any % or a set amount per # of deals brought in.

Dealers work with brokers to get distribution (i.e., access to customer demand beyond their local geographic market). There are similar partnership distribution models in many industries, including financial services, which I'm most familiar with. Dealers offer brokers cut-rate prices because they use them to clear stale inventory or because they don't incur the same level of sales and marketing expense. (It costs money to employ all those sales people to sit around and twist your arm.)

You are right that dealers are not eager to provide allocations to brokers during a time of white-hot demand like right now. But they will continue to do so if the brokers can bring customers willing to pay MSRP - it's no skin off their back. First come first served.

That all makes sense , I realize it’s great for clearing inventory but was just wondering why they’d do it with the new M3/M4s. I’m sure throwing the brokers a bone like this improves their relationship. I’ve got such a good deal worked out with my dealer I have to play the waiting game. I’m first on the list but they haven’t gotten anything for over a month now. As more time passes the less anxious I am actually. I’ll get one eventually.
