Brake boost: Service Request

I was about to go for a trip last friday and I started getting error messages in my 2024 G80 M3 Competition xDrive. The error messages where:

- Brake boost: Service Request
- Chassis Stabilization: Service Request
- Driving Assistance Support Reduced: Service Request

The brake pedal was very hard and it only really manage to brake the car by pressing it extremely hard. I made it to the dealer and now they say that the error is gone, they reseted the error and updated the software and doing tests to make sure that there is nothing wrong as it is a safety feature. The car is still there and no more news since tuesday.

Should I be worried it will happend again if they are not finding any faulty part? I can tell you that if this happened while on a highway at high speed I would definitely have had an accident…

This probably needs to fall under the same aspect as the stop sale recall BMW had for the brake booster component a couple of months ago. Chances are good that this issue is a lot more widespread than BMW thinks it was. A couple of others had issues with brakes during drives which led to accidents and BMW didn’t do anything about it. You can’t take error like this, reset them and send the customer back on their way. The dealership needs to contact BMW tech line directly with the exact original codes and full scan and get their assessments and probably replace the brake booster with new revised part to be on the same side. Anything less and they’re open to a negligence lawsuit should something bad happen.

This is the "brake by wire" system deciding there is air in the system. Happened to me, but it was my fault. I removed the caliper, and when I put it back on the car decided that pressure didn't build properly (because the pistons were pushed back and had to "cinch up" to the pad).

If this was from any benign cause, forget it. And the car brakes fine, just like a 1974 Porsche 914 (I drove mine all the way down 81 from PittRace to home). It just is a hard pedal, but the hydraulic system works fine.

I've seen a lot of "sue happy" posts recently, from more than a few miles on the car at delivery, to this one. Is the car fine? Was it covered under warranty? For goodness sakes.

Well, if the brake-by-wire system decides randomly (or not) that it has to stop working properly, I don’t think the system is designed correctly (or safely). Probably the car can brake but at high speed I can tell you that, if not an accident, I would have the scariest moment of my life for sure. In my opinion it is not a minor topic…

While I agree it shouldn’t be random, this one so far has been seen only by track drivers. Myself included.

The car gives adequate warnings, and also tells you to stop driving. I did not, because I knew I had triggered it inadvertently.

UPDATE:

I just picked up the car. The error didn’t show again but they updated the software to 03/2025.65, upgraded the brake software and they have bled the system.

Let’s see…

It happened again just now. This time the dealer’s mechanic could check and feel the brake pedal’s behavior. I love this car but honestly, I do not trust it anymore. I cannot feel confident driving it knowing that the brakes don’t work correctly. I am very disappointed…

They took all the logs and sent them to BMW for help. I hope this time they do change something…

UPDATE: They replaced the servo brake and updated and calibrated all the braking system. Let’s hope it is really solved now.
