SOLVED & MUST READ / Park assist failure with race seats
Hi guys,
I got two race seats and got all the coding done by kubax86 from Bimmer-remote.com and everything was done perfectly. A big thanks to him, top guy ! But one error remains, that was checked by my BMW dealer tech chief (a friend so he went deep into the coding with remote ISTA), but with no luck. The error appeared after we removed the driver seat and had to move the car a little to change the passenger seat. In Bimmercode, it is link to all round camera vision : 800BAA (Internal voltage error) and 800BF4 (violation of task run time). The error is triggered when car is on, by selecting reverse : park assist failure : all cameras works but I can't ask for an assist. Even if i never use auto assistance (only the cameras and sensors to help me), this is annoying to get the error. The error is deleted each time from the memory after the car is off. So temporary each time and only triggered if you select Reverse or hit the park assist button on the center console. Does anybody have an idea why ? I have one and suspect the car doesn't feel there is a driver on the seat (no weight sensor or whatever) and perhaps goes into error because of that. Is there anything else to disable ? I also look at what Protool does in this video by KIES. Perhaps this goes deeper and help me ? kubax86 wasn't able to help me more with this but clearly the problem is link to OEM seat deletion as it appeared at the same time. Thanks for any help, ideas, experience...

Did the Park Assist work after coding and testing with the new seats and only appeared AFTER you removed the seat and moved the car with it disconnected? Are there modules or cables that were disconnected when this happened? It’s possible something wasn’t plugged back in right. It’s also possible seat belt latching necessary for park assist to work now since other sensors aren’t in the seat anymore, like occupancy, etc.
If everything truly is plugged in right and no issues, I would try a complete power cut on the car (remove battery power from it for 2 min) and then plug it back in. Then see where you’re at as this would totally power cycle all modules in the car and start fresh. This won’t mess with your coding you’ve done, so you shouldn’t have to worry about that. If for some reason any modules complain about anything, doing a full code clearing via software after reconnecting the battery should clear that all up. If you still have issues after this, then either something physically changed when you messed with the new seat (maybe pinched wire or something) or testing to make sure all your systems worked wasn’t done after the seat install after coding and this is simply a feature you ran into that won’t work due to this. The only car that has racing buckets in it without any sensors is the CSL and that car doesn’t have park assist because it doesn’t have the surround cameras, so maybe is coding was done to match that, maybe that’s why the function is failing now. 🤷*♂️ |

its tough to see how that error is related to the seats as that code indicates an electrical issue between the icam ECU and the rear camera and there is not even any wiring in common with the seat modules. the driver's seat doesn't have occupancy detection so it can't be related to that. swapping the seats is pretty quick so i would probably put the original seats back in to confirm if it still happens.

And you're sure it is related to the rear camera? Cannot be the front one or one the mirrors' one? Quote:
The error appeared as soon as we fired the car with the race seat in for the driver and put it in reverse to move it to get enough space to work on the passenger seat / race seat install. The only thing that was disconnected from the car was the driver seat, there's nothing to plug back. Seat buckles can't be connected anymore (that's why you have to code them out). About pinching wires, I don't know where that could be possible in the car. The new race seats consoles are dedicated to the G8x, they don't compress anything, etc. I will try to disconnect the battery of the car but my BMW tech chief friend who made a whole reset by Remote ISTA didn't succeed. Let's give it a try anyway. I didn't see a lot of guys doing race seats on the G8x platform, at best they swap between Comfort and OEM bucket ones. So this park assist thing is a mystery. As you say it is perhaps normal, that's also why I asked here if anyone encounter the same problem (but didn't tell anyone). The error in itself is not a problem to drive the car, just to pain to acknowledge it each time you get in the car and has to use reverse. At least you just get the warning once per trip. Thanks to both of you for this first help answers I also hope my english is as ok and accurate as possible to describe my problem.

so based on the chain of events you've described, if the issue is in fact related to the seats, anyone should be able to replicate this by simply unplugging their driver's seat connector and then putting the car into reverse? if that's the case i can do it on my car and confirm if i do or do not get the camera code. TBH i am betting it will be not.

I'll go directly to BMW and see with my tech chief. To see the full code, he has to see the car, plug ISTA and get the car in reverse, as the code disappears when the car is shut down. Thanks for the help again ![]()

i would think that a possible solution for this could be to decode automatic parking, assuming that is in fact the issue you are having , which im not sure about as again , the codes are completely different.

I guess you get different error codes when you : 1. just press the park assist button (perhaps what you did) 2. engage reverse when the car is on (what i did) That is perhaps my code relates to the rear camera. If you confirm your code was different because you just pressed park assist, then we are on the right track. Now, how to solve this !? This clearly demonstrates not a lot of people did race seats on G8x... EDIT / UPDATE : I just tried : if the car is not on, pressing park assist does not throw any error. Firing the car, it does. This time i just pressed park assist button (so not selecting reverse), and i get the same errors than selecting reverse, so not different ones like you. What are your codes ?

Okay you suggest me to do the same ? Can i do it with bimmercode ? I won't erase what Kubax86 did for the seatbelts and the airbags if i do it ?
EDIT : Seems i can't find it with bimmercode...

no cannot do with bimmercode. this is not something that exists anywhere prior to now, i had to figure out the specific settings that decode auto parking but leave the rest of the surround camera functionality. i can do it for you remotely.

That might be part of your issue then. What if you try to take them off the original seat and just plug the harness in. Maybe it’s an additional safety check. Any variable in regards to stock plugged in device configuration is a possible blame for this, I guess is what I’m saying and safety things outside of seat modules are highly likely to be a trigger.

And a big thanks to chris3g who tested for me and helped me find the solution. It's really great to see a top guy like that on the forum !
He will explain better what was happening, but decoding auto park assist is necessary as you don't have buckle signal. You still keep cameras, surround view, PDC beeps, etc. Just no more auto parking (never used). The auto reverse function is still there, not tested yet, will do later !

yes so to summarize -
1) i believe the code Franck retrieved from bimmertool was not correct, sending down wrong troubleshooting path. 2) the actual code that i verified on my own car is a transmitter code - meaning the ECU (icam) does not receive an expected signal 3) automatic parking feature requires driver's seat buckle contact signal, which is deleted when installing race seats. 4) solution to eliminate the parking assist malfunction is to decode the auto parking function (and only the auto park function, we still of course want to maintain full 360 camera functionality) from the car. this will be needed for g8x race seat installs when the car has Parking Assist Plus (5DN) option in order to have a fully errorless install.

Trick is quite easy - disabling PMA in USS module - at least that's how I solved it.
