Brake rotor resurface possible/needed?
The car has 3800 miles on it and 2 track days only. The front pads have enough life left but the rear were replaced already.
This is how the front and rear rotors look like and they haven't changed much since 800 miles ago at last track events. They are very groovy, front being worse, and the left front has those dark black stripes, hot spot or pad residue, that just don't go away. It feels noticeably higher (maybe 0.2-0.4mm)than the surrounding surface But they don't make any noise and brake bite or performance doesn't degrade as I can tell. The rear rotor is a bit wobbly braking hard from 80mph. Can I or should I resurface them? I am about to put on new track pads for the next event in a month but looks like some reconditioning is needed. If they have to be replaced, 4 rotors each track weekend is just way too costly. |

Put on better pads and move on. What you’re seeing is bullshit residue from the cooked stock pads. The surface will clear up as you brake once you get some pads on there that you’re not overheating.
