Winter tires on RWD? Or put the car away?

Hey folks, seems like it's starting to get cold. Any suggestions for winter tires? I drive 6MT RWD and I was toying with the idea of getting a winter car but I'm being told by others that I'll survive just fine with winter tires. Agree or disagree?

Got these for the back, now I'm hunting for front tires. Still wondering whether I should change wheels or run the OEM.

Park that thing. You don’t want it getting all gunked up with salt. I’m in Maine, with a G80 currently in production. Looking like December delivery, it’s going right into storage once I get it.

My M4 has xDrive and I parked it last year. Kept the Summers on. Actually drove it a few times in the snow with summers. I would not recommend. This year I just put on all seasons. Car is so low any significant snow, RWD or not and I am plowing. I have done the same with RWD Sports cars in the past. All-Seasons all around and I wont drive if the snow is more than a few inches. AWD or not, it does not help you stop any better.

I definitely don't intend on driving when it's snowy, but just wondering if I limit my driving to when roads are clear if I can get away with bringing the car out.

I drive mine year round with winters on during the cold months. I do not drive it in the snow.... unless it's fresh and the parking lots haven't been plowed

I plan on putting high performance all seasons on and leaving them on all year. Mornings get into the 30s in early October and stay that way through April and the summer tires suck below 50. I had a dedicated snow set on my 23 M4 and we had pelnty of days last winter that hit 50 and the winters suck when it’s a bit warmer and dry. So…I’m going for all seasons all year and that way I’m good in all conditions. Yea if you push the car super hard or track it this won’t be a good set up for you but if you are not planning on going to jail this set up may work well and allows you to drive comfortably all year. Summers also suck in May and September when it’s 55 and rainy.

I've had a M4 (F82) and M3 (E92) that I drove year round. Never really had a problem with RWD, as long as I had winter tires.

However, with my G80, I now have a Jeep to drive in the winter. So I will leave it parked over the winter and keep the salt off of it.

I drove my G80 6MT with winter tires this past winter without issues. Granted we didn't get much snow, but took it out in the 4-6" blast we did get and it handled it pretty well. Coming from an RS3 I expected much worse but the M surprised me. Be confident it can handle itself in the snow as long as you're careful with the throttle and the snow isn't too deep.

My 2025 M4 6 MT should arrive in September and I plan to run mine year round as well with proper winter tires. I have used my 2022 Z4 M40i for 3 winters with no issues at all. If we get a lot of snow i use my kia soul 6mt (best winter beater i have ever had) But to me a car like this is something I want to enjoy all the time. In my opinion life is too short to worry about resale values. Just my humble opinion.

Yeah same here as does my father who has now had his subaru impreza wrx wagon for 18 years of vermont winters and still no rust. I believe it’s all in how you care for the car. with this being one of the last chances to get a manual, this will likely be a forever car.

Michelin Pilot Alpin 5's in OEM staggered fitment. Life is too short to be waiting until April every year with skinny tires and wheels.

No rubbing at all and not sure on the wheel spec at the moment they were a fit on tire rack so i ordered the package from town fair tire. $1700.00 out the door mounted and balanced. And they are balanced perfect no vibrations. Took it up to 145 and smooth as silk.

I found a photo it took 19x9.5 +20mm so i can rotate them.

Had some snow the other day about 3” and even made my steepish driveway without spinning.
