Great video comparison here & I feel bad for those that thought this new AMG would be a fun car. It looks nice but that's about it. Those engineers should be put on time out for a little while! LOL M3 FTW.

The E39 M5 was 4024lbs curb weight, with similar dimensions to the current G80 M3. Yes, it had a V8 but the G80 has more cooling, electronics, features, weight from safety items, and other such and is lighter than the same-length but more slender M5.

Until battery tech changes, no one is really going to be able to make a "lightweight" car with it. Tesla has done the best with it, mostly by making the rest of the car cheap and skipping a lot of noise reduction materials.
I see some other performance car makers making wiser choices. The new hybrid 992 GTS is a great example. The F80 included carbon bracing that M later walked away from. If Mazda can do it with the Miata generation after generation and Porsche can do it pretty well, my sense is that current M leadership just don’t put a premium on weight reduction. AMG really cocked it up, and hopefully M will avoid that disaster.

992 GTS unfortunately doesn't not help much in the ways of Co2 emissions and is not enough to lift the tax penalty on it (at least where I live)... The G90 does have the penalty lift making it similar price to an M2... But that's kind of specific where ones live and how the local authorities apply the green tax non sense.

I had a G80 before I ordered the G81, both using them as daily, and I can't really say i noticed a significant change between the two in stiffness. That being said the merc is heavier and have soft seats ... the carbon seats in the M3 makes you a part of the car... Which is arguably what you'd want in a performance car ? I don't see that as a drawback it's still comfy enough in comfort mode.

You can be bitter all you want but the truth is that the US market isn't into wagons. The numbers don't lie.

I understand the market dynamics, doesn't mean I am not into wagons. I don't care if BMW would lose tens of millions of dollars bringing the M3 here, this is all about ME!!!

I’m not sure where you’re getting those numbers that don’t lie, but every time Americans see a performance wagon, they bemoan the lack of availability to them. I’ve never heard a member of the American public say “I’d never buy a wagon”! G’s, you invented the format. Folk buy what’s available.

I really don't understand your point. Truly, what are you saying?

The numbers literally don't lie. Wagons are sales death in the US. Yeah sure all us enthusiasts moan about "I want a wagon" and "I want a manual" and then we turn around and don't buy them.
