Needsdecaf - Because it takes a lot longer for the engine to heat up and the windows to defrost if the engine is just idling. Since the windows are frosted I cannot actually drive so this the next best thing.

Sportier setting for spirited driving:

M1
Engine - Sport Plus
Transmission - D3
Chassis - Sport
Steering: - Sport
Brake - Sport
DSC - On
Drivetrain - 4WD Sport

DD setting for driving around town and with the family. D1 is really just to save a little gas. I'll hover between 1 and 2 here and there.

M2
Engine - Sport Plus
Transmission - D1
Chassis - Comfort
Steering: - Comfort
Brake - Comfort
DSC - On
Drivetrain - 4WD

What makes things confusing is that if the display doesn't show M1 or M2 the assumption is that you are in comfort mode. Maybe if they just changed the color of the M1/M2 indicator (if M1/M2 mode is modified) as they do with the gear number if you shift manually in D with the paddles that would end the confusion.

I also thought it would nice to be able to change the default settings but I understand the (safety and other) issues that could occur if a different driver got in the vehicle.
I can understand that as well. The problem is if you go *back* into your exact same M1 or M2 setup manually, you do *not* go back into M1/M2 mode. Even if you're in your exact same setup, hitting M1/2 again will simply just put the logo up and make no changes. Would be nice if the car recognized if you were in your same setup again and put you back into M1/M2 mode.

Let me see if I understand what you explained. If my M2 mode is configured with S3 set and I change to D3 while in that mode all other settings stay the same, I will be in D3 but the logo in the display goes away. If I press the M2 button again all that changes is that the M2 Logo lights but I am still in M2 with D3.

What happens if I am in M2 w/S3 and I change to D3, the logo goes away and I press M1? Does that take me into comfort mode, M1 or leaves all the M2 settings w/D3 and just brings the M2 logo back?

Damn, it would be so much easier and less confusing if when switching to D3 the M2 logo just changed color. Pressing M2 again would load all of the configured settings again. Pressing M1 then would load the M1 settings with the M1 logo and pressing M1 again would be comfort settings with no logo.

Let me clarify using your situation. If your M2 mode is S3, and you change to D3, and hit M2 again, it'll put you back into S3 and your M2 logo will show up. What I was bringing up as an annoyance was, in your example, if you're in M2 and switch to D3, the logo will go away (because you're not in S3 as your M2 setting is), but if you go back into S3 (by hitting the shifter over) you will not go back into M2 mode. If you hit M2 after that, it will do nothing except put the logo back up (since you're already in S3). You'd need to hit it a 2nd time to go back into all comfort. Making literally *any* change to your drive setup in any M1/2 mode will take out of that mode (logo disappears) and even if you go back into your exact drive setup with M1/M2, you will not be in the "mode" again unless you hit the button (even if it doesn't actually change anything since you're already in the drive mode).

Hopefully that clarifies my annoyance.

I think I understand better now. I guess having the car recognize that the transmission was put back into S3 and the configuration once again matches the configured M2 mode would be too much to ask.

Isn’t Drive the default comfort setting? Why dedicate M1 to the start up default?

I use these settings on cold starts, usually morning time en route to coffee/gym, to gently get it up to temp

Engine - Comfort
Transmission - Auto 1
Chassis - Comfort
Steering - Comfort
Brake - Comfort
DSC - On
Exhaust button off

"" whenever fully warmed up which takes a long time (~13 miles)

Engine - Sport Plus
Transmission - Manual 2
Chassis - Comfort
Steering - Sport
Brake - Comfort
DSC - Off
Exhaust button on

The CCBs in sport mode feels too overboosted. CSL's engine/trans feel/sound is magic. This is my biggest surprise coming from the F82 CS. I don't miss the DCT at all.
