Adding what BMW forgot and more - canDO Plus easy DIY

Hey yall, I am really excited to share this new technology for the G model BMW.

One of the things that frustrated me about my car, is how the M1/M2 buttons didn't have the option to change the display to Road, Sport or even Track. I went looking for a solution, and found something that does far more than just that simple change!

The canDO Plus module is incredibly sophisticated for such a small package. This will allow you to associate dozens of possible triggers (button push, iDrive movement and more to dozens of actions.

This is just the VERY EASY install video, and will have the walk-through of the embedded wifi and web UI.

I would want one of these in every G model I owned, and they are working on F series development!

For all the ID8 guys it's easy to install for the guys with the ID7 it won't work yet I've tried it and the triggers wouldn't work but I found this guy on Instagram simracer_kos137 who figured it out for the ID7 platform works perfect no issues and love how I just have to press m1 or m2 only .
I do like what the canDo+ can do on the ID8 platform

Thanks Stefan, that's awesome!

We are looking forward to delivering even more features through over-the-air firmware updates!

I believe that's completely controlled by iOS/Android and dependent on the car brightness system.

So, I doubt it.

I could not figure out how to remove the center console trim piece without breaking tabs off on my automatic G82. Will try again later with a better set of trim removal tools, but so far it seems very difficult. Might end up just breaking those tabs off in the end if nothing else works.

I don't understand that why for some people's cars, it seems much harder to do than others. Mine literally just came right off as soon as I pulled the back up. And yes, all the clips were engaged. I re-installed and removed a bunch of times. And yet on some cars, it's practically glued in there.

Very odd.

In any event, search around, there are other videos about taking off the center console trim. I forget which one I saw that has a good explanation of how to remove the trim from the clips.

I think you got lucky. The vast majority of us have a lot of trouble with it.

It really is quite difficult. What I found was getting a trim tool wedged between the cupholder area and the trim, then getting a thin screwdriver to push backwards (towards the shifter) and down to try and unclip it worked well, but still took a lot of effort. I did break the clips on a previous M4 I had and it ended up not mattering/rattling, and you could always just put a small amount of felt tape in that area if it does, so I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Here are photos showing the tabs in the front of the trim piece that need to be pushed in to release them and their location. They are narrow and if the tool is too wide it will push against the posts on the sides and prevent the center tab from releasing. There is also a photo where they mate into the console. In the 3rd photo you can see punch marks I put in the edge of the trim piece above the tabs so with the aid of a mirror I can see where I need to push with the tool the next time I have to take this apart. (Don't be fooled by the camera lens perspective. They are in alignment with the tabs.)

Well done!! Getting this trim off for the autos is a serious PITA.

Kies has a whole series of new videos up on this unit now too! I am really excited to see what combinations of features folks come up with.

Is anyone compiling a list or a "best in class" type list of functions to use?

His video also shows how to remove the clips at the front of the carbon fiber shifter surround on autos.
