2024 G80 M3 Oil Temp Below Normal - Any Thoughts?

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a 2024 G80 M3 with about 3,600 miles on it. Normally, the oil temp sits comfortably above 210°F, typically in the 212-215°F range. However, after driving it hard today for about an hour in both Sport and Efficient mode, the oil temp briefly hit 210°F but would drop back down to around 205-208°F. It hasn’t stayed above 210°F like it usually does.

The only variable I can think of is that I filled up with 91 octane at Shell, but this is the same gas and station I’ve used before without any issues like this.

Has anyone else experienced something similar or have any thoughts on what could be going on?

Appreciate any insights!

I do not think the fuel would cause any irregularities in normal operating oil temperature. I think this should be fine and within the operating oil temperature range for the S58.

However, I don't have an oil temperature gauge on my f22 M240i, so hopefully other members can chime in?

What's the ambient temp? But i think you're overreacting over a few degrees lower temp.

This is normal and the oil cooler is doing what it was designed for. I’ve seen my oil temp drop even more than that after some spirited driving, ambient temps 90+. With day to day regular commuting te temp doesn’t move much. Hope this helps.

This is normal and it works the same way on my F80, the different modes (mainly Sport Plus) have different cooling profiles to keep the car as cool as possible under more intense driving conditions.

If you set the engine to Sport Plus and listen you’ll likely hear the fans kick on immediately to help draw in more air. There’s a few other things that go on in the background to help here too. These cars have very powerful cooling packages under the hood.

Read the technical training... IIRC, it details out when the oil is routed through the cooler. Sounds like that's exactly what happened, and it worked as designed.

and 60 degrees from redline. There are many variables that will account for a few degrees, even several degrees in either direction. There is a red on the gauge for a reason, worry when you get close to it or over.
