Laguna Seca 105db this weekend
So I'm starting to have anxiety about the 105db limit at Laguna Seca. I have three track days this weekend and i don't want to get banned on the first day.
I'm running stock DPs, PSI midpipe with resonator and secondary cat delete, and a Remus Race exhaust. I do not have a valve controller. It is LOUD at WOT. I just don't know how loud. Cold start is 108db from 1ft away at a 45 degree angle from the tip. I do not have rolling WOT measurements at any distance. I track in Efficient mode because it is much easier to manage the throttle on exit. I was considering trying Sport for the linear throttle, but my anxiety over sound limits has pretty much talked me out of that. I've read conflicting explanations on how the exhaust flaps work in Efficient. Some say the valves are always closed in Efficient. Some say even in Efficient, at WOT they're open. Some say it depends on the ASD setting. I know i can short shift, but in the heat of the lap I'm concerned that I might forget once in a while. So if I don't have to remember, I'd rather not. With all of that said two (and a half) questions.... #1 How worried should I be about hitting the 105db limit in general given my setup? #2 How does the exhaust flap function in Efficient and how does the ASD selection affect this? OK, bonus question... does anybody know if it's possible to get their readings from the sound booth if you're NOT black flagged? I figure if I can see the results that I can try different things over the three days and work my way up to a 100% lap if I can see that I'm not hitting the 105db limit.

105 is a pretty solid limit, I really don't think you'll have a problem.
I've seen people get away with ridiculous stuff at Limerock which has 86db limit which even stock cars tend to exceed. But to be fair, I've never been to LS and can't tell you how strict they are. At LRP, they'll black flag you a few times before they tell you to leave and they check sound levels on the front straight. |

on any engine mode, sound control button or or off, the exhaust flaps are opening under high load/rpm conditions for engine safety. no way to stop this from happening without a valve controller that has a forced closed mode, or a custom engine tune that is programmed to do that. probably not a great idea to do it though.

You should be ok with stock DPs but it will be close. Do your first couple of sessions in efficient. It's a shame cause I love that track but hate the grief over sound. If I read correctly, they now have a mobile sound booth in addition to the fixed booth after T5.

105db is pretty much the highest level of sound restriction before it goes to no sound restriction.
With stock downpipes and full titanium exhaust, Laguna flagged me twice at ~95db on a 90db track day. With stock downpipes, single resonated midpipe, and factory axle back, I passed the same 90db sound restriction without a single black flag. |

UPDATE: I was worried for nothing. No problem at all with db limits. There were cars there that were MUCH louder than I am (they had their Laguna extensions on). I still don't know what I measure at, which would be nice to know in case I go to a lower limit day.
