1 week since switching from the RS5 to the M3 competition and wow I’m in love!!

so far between the RS5 and the M3 Comp. xDrive, it’s night and day difference in terms of performance and technology. I haven’t been this excited to get into a car on a daily basis in a long time!

Congrats and welcome! I came from a 2022 RS5 Sportback as well. You are going to love the M3!

Congrats , great color and specs!

If I can ask , is performance so different ?

I just got an m3 comp x drive as well , always liked audi RS in general, just curious as you have a reliable benchmark btw the 2 😎

I know you didn't ask me but yes, the performance is quite a bit different. The RS5 has its upsides, but from an overall performance lens, the M3 is a much more engaging and faster (straight line, cornering, etc.). The RS5 "Competition Package" definitely bridges the gap a bit, but still not close.

Congrats! Yes, the M3x is a pretty big step up over an RS5 in pretty much any metric or aspect. The Audi RS models always seem to be a day late and a dollar short compared to the M and AMG competitors, even though they launch later with a clear target - not to mention usually more expensive. I've not driven the RS5 'Competition', but despite being a performance upgrade to the reg RS5, and Audi knowing very well what the M3 offers (and having been out for 3 years now), they dont exceed or even match the M3 with this even more expensive model.

Can you expound more on your experience?

I have an RS5 and I love it! Especially, with the practicality and 'Swiss Army' knife capabilities with running my kids around with all the sports gear. It really is an amazing all around daily driver.

However, I still keep my eye on the current G80 (have an E46 ZCP) and think about pursuing one from time to time but I know I'll lose those positives I just named from the RS5 that fit my life so well at this point.

I think the main decision is that the G80 is a sports car at heart and can be reasonably comfortable and luxurious but dials up quickly. And the hatch in the RS5 obviously gives some real practicality since we don't get the touring.

Performance is on different level, though.

The practicality is honestly the only thing I miss from my RS5 x 2. Being able to throw a bike, TV, basically anything in the hatch without even having to lower the rear seats is pretty awesome. The G80 is just so much more fun though. Although I will say the RS5 sounds better at least stock for stock.

I had a 2019 RS5 Sportback for 4 years and it was a great car, but I agree that the G80 M3 is a step up!

Second this, I’m at 10k miles on my second G80 and every drive puts a smile on my face. This generation of M3 is ridiculously good. Enjoy

I did add the front and rear sway bars, link kits, and suspension bushings and it has made a HUGE difference in feel and handling. Car literally feels 500 lbs lighter and is an absolute must have mod IMO.

The steering is still way too light and even with all of those changes, it still doesn't turn in or handle like an M3. That's why I had to switch. Only took owning 2 RS5's to make the decision I should have made in the beginning.

Welcome! Not to knock too harshly on Audi, I used to be an Audi guy, but people don't really recognize the importance of how much near 50/50 weight distribution affects the driving experience. Yes, the RS5 is a beautiful and fast car, but they have too much weight over the front wheels. The M3/4 isn't the most dynamic car, but it's much more enjoyable than an RS5 in this regard.

Yep! The Quattro approach from Audi is more weight in the wrong places. Understeer and other negative driving dynamics

I don't disagree with any of that and if I could swap my RS5 for a G80 spec'd exactly as I'd like (the bucket seats really do it for me lol) and it was really only about the driving experience? I absolutely would but with how I use the RS5 (only personal driving) for so much of my kids sports responsibilities and their errands on public roads, the RS5 is a perfect daily driver!

And I still take my E46 out of the garage from time to time.

It doesn't help that their engines are mounted so far over the front wheels!

The RS5 is perfectly fine for a daily driver, much more than fine! And the E4, is probably more enjoyable than a G8X in terms of pure driving experience!

Having test driven a B9 RS4 Avant and a G80 M3 Comp XDrive back to back the differences are quite significant. Other than the performance, the M3 is clearly quicker in straight line performance, the other difference that struck me at the time was the age of the Audi's interior and it's tech, which is clearly a generation behind the G8x series.

PS. Just saw the initial online preview of the new A5/S5 and it seems Audi are catching up in the tech dept, but I have questions about the quality of the interior materials.

Competitors often leap frog in front of each other from generation to generation in terms of tech. Its good for the consumers.
