My M4 lease is almost up and with the Supra GRMN rumored to have an S58 and a manual, anyone intrigued/sceptical? I’m definitely interested but I have never driven a Supra.
Will it handle as well? Will it come with “M1” and “M2” buttons? Will it remain close to it’s 3400lb curb weight?

I've always thought the Supra needed an M-equivalent variant, so it makes sense they'd put the S58 in it.
Great car but you need to completely overhaul the rear suspension for any serious track work. It's ok once it's sorted and dialed in. |

I’ve heard the Supra has some rear suspension issues, but I don’t know the details. Can you elaborate?

I’ve spoken to a couple Supra owners who track. They both mentioned how twitchy the rear end is stock, especially on a road course. That’s all sorted out and the car can become a flat, neutral machine once the suspension is dialed in along with upgraded sway bars. PHD racing pioneered that platform and it’s evident that it works as many supras are now competing at a high level in Global Time Attack and in other regional levels.

I've known 4 folk who bought them and didn't keep them long because of it. All of them were between 5'10" and 6'2". And I have a 5'6" friend who has had his for 3 years and is very happy with it. |

I've driven one for a bit with the B58 - strong engine, so I can just imagine how much faster it would be with an S58. It drove well though I didnt push it too hard - friend had just bought it that day. I do recall most reviews saying the rear end was snappy/twitchy. Overall, generally though it was nice, and a manual would certainly add to the experience.
What Bri said above it totally correct - it is small inside and feels that way. It's not like a 718/GT4 where the cabin feels rather big, and sight lines out are not great at all. Otherwise, nice looking car aesthetically on the outside. Inside was not my favorite, but certainly not a deal breaker. |

They've had rumors about a GRMN for years now, unless something has changed, I don't think it will actually happen. I also don't see it as necessary either. The b58 is a monster of an engine as well, so I don't see that much of an upside to producing a Supra with S58 vice B58. You can easily tune a B58 to surpass the stock output of an S58.
I had a 21 Supra, which is actually how i ended up in my M4. I bought a supra, loved the engine, but nothing else about the car. It's cramped and cheap interior, fake vents, and terrible sound system just didn't do it for me. It also feels very unstable in stock trim, and I hated that. I went from a supra to a G42 M240i xdrive, which i really liked. Liked it so much I placed an order for my M4CX, and the rest is history. Personally, I would never go from the xdrive M4 to a supra, S58 or otherwise. If the M2 comes out with xdrive next year, thats a wrap lol.

GRMN isn't happening, sadly. Couple reasons: 1) an S58 in that chassis is going to be a rocketship and something like that would have a BMW badge on it; 2) even if BMW were willing to let Toyota use even a detuned S58, I'm not sure Toyota can make money commercializing such a limited edition model. If it was gonna happen, it would've happened by now.
Other than that, my experience was the same as Hendo741. The A90 is a good--but not great--car and going from an M4 to an A90 would be a big backward step, except maybe as a dedicated track car. My daughter asks me if I ever miss my Supra and my answer is always "nope!" lol |
