G82 CSL Trunk Lid Issues

Recently installed the CSL style trunk lid for my G82 M4, bumped into a few issues:
1. With the stock shock absorbers, the trunk lid would rush open with a pretty significant force, causing it hard to predict its trajectory
2. When trunk is closed with the closing button, it wouldn’t lock when it reaches the bottom. Instead, it would go back up because it can’t be locked in place.

Wondering if anyone with similar experience with the CSL trunk lid could shine some light on how to solve the issue. Thank you.

Maybe the weight difference between the OEM piece and your aftermarket piece is causing the issue, as in the OEM executive package is calibrated for a heavier unit. Did you contact the manufacturer for the aftermarket piece?

Thank you for the reply. I understand the situation is caused by a lighter trunk lid, and it seems like the best/only solution is to get a trunk spring from the G82 CSL. It caused over 1200 USD, so I think I am just gonna have to live with the issue for the time being.

This.
Or you can try remove the strut from one side and just use one.
I put a carbon hood on a Mustang I had years ago and ran one hood strut for this same issue.

Thank you for the reply! From my humble understanding, would removing one strut might result in the imbalance of force from the two sides of the trunk, which might result in the shifting of position of the trunk lid as time goes by?

Maybe remove one strut and periodically reinstall the other strut and remove the current strut. Basically balance it out every few months.

I wonder if a small amount of weight added somewhere to the trunk lid might help--if you can figure out the weight difference between your aftermarket unit and OEM

I wonder if the CSL trunk struts are a different part number. $1,200 seems pretty steep for some trunk struts. Whats the manufacturer of the trunk lid? It seems to have great fitment, unless you had to work it significantly to get it to fit?

That feels like a lot of effort haha. The most important part is that the fitment needs to be adjusted every now and then because of the imbalance caused by keeping one side of the struct.

That’s a doable solution. Perhaps mounting a bit weight back would help the car to think that it’s still the original lid, thus working properly.

I am checking on the part for the struct, from I got from US dealerships, it’s about 1200-1300 USD. Funny story: it took the shop a whole day to adjust the trunk lid to look the way it is, and it’s still not perfectly fit.

Then maybe just get the right part and be done with it? Let’s say 2k all in but you’ll never have to worry about it and have to bring it back up on the forum. Anyone else that runs into this issue you’ll be able to help them as well.

In terms of the weight difference. Sometimes the car itself will adapt to the lighter weight after a few weeks or so.

From a local carbon parts manufacturer. I would say the fitment is okay, but not the best.
