Recommend Any Road Trip Routes or Stops in DC/MD/VA
Hello DC, MD, and VA Peeps.
I'll be taking a road trip to SC for the New Owner's Track Drive experience and will be passing through the area during the morning hours on Thu, 5/9 and returning back on Sat, 5/11 (timing TBD). I saw that there is a huge car meet sponsored by Mikey & Mel's on Saturday from 10A - 1P, but not sure I'll make it back up in time for that event. In any case, outside of taking I-95 straight through, I would appreciate any recommendations for scenic routes to take and places to grab a bite (with ample parking spots ). Thanks in advance! |

Skyline Drive, Cherohala Skyway, and Tail of the Dragon.

OP, I might go west out of Philly and then maybe take 340 or 15 south through VA. That'll take you through Harper's Ferry and Shenandoah. Once you're in VA, you can stop at a winery or two, which wouldn't take you too far out of your way. And you can also stop in Charlottesville, which is definitely worth it.
Skyline Drive is a good suggestion but it can get totally choked with traffic. The Tail of the Dragon is a good drive but isn't what OP asked for. There's also 81, which is an interstate, if you need to make better time. Honestly, anything is going to be better than 95. |

Oops. According to the website I shared, Tail of the Dragon may be undergoing repaving in May. Maybe defer driving ToD for your next trip south.

In the MD and DC area, there was a fair amount of construction (hence the lower average speed). During my local drives, I see about 20 mpg. I'll post another screen shot--maybe it was all downhill / coasting? |
