G83 M4 Convertible Top Error Message
Has any convertible owners got the following error message on their car?
"Opening/closing of the retractable top temporarily not possible. Roadside Assistance not required. Tailgate possibly not completely closed or retractable top movement operated too frequently" Sunday I opened my top at 7am. Closed it at 1pm. Opened again at 4:30 pm and closed at 5:30 pm. Decided on a night time drive at 8:30 pm and that message popped up at that time. I'm surprised that message would come up with that long in between cycles. My trunk was fully closed, the little partition in the trunk was in the correct position (moved it back and forth 4 times to ensure it was definitely correct) Around 9:30 pm on way home the top did indeed go down without an error message. Any input is appreciated before I take it into dealer for them to diagnose. Picture attached of message |

I think I've gotten that popped up once but it didn't pop up again and the top is working fine. Might just be a fluke.

A fluke could be the problem. If it is, you’ll know in a couple of days.

it happened to me once also...I suspect the logic that controls opening the top checks the flap position in the trunk but also checks system voltages before allowing operation. As with all systems with many pieces of logic they can get confused and default to a non operational status. I think your message is just displayed no matter the fault. Only happened once in almost two years of ownership so if it continues I would take it to dealer.

I've had this error message three or four times, always when opening and closing the top repeatedly over a short period of time. I've always assumed it was a mechanical protection thing to prevent overheating or something similar.

I’ve had my car for 2.5 years. I open and close the top often and have never seen this error.

Thank you all for your responses. It's appreciated. I will just monitor and and look for that terrible smell coming from my car, I think TxFeatFan said it's a fluke
