But the sales seem to be frequent enough ...keep an eye on BMW's site. The voucher you buy is good indefinitely, you can schedule the class at your leisure. Charles

I’m an idiot and totally screwed my paint up in a couple spots using an orbital buffer today. I think the edge of it hit the paint, I didn’t realize until after I was buffing everything out. Pretty disappointed.

Just because it’s brand new doesn’t mean the paint is perfect. The cars sit in shipping yards for weeks at a time and are shipped across the world over a 2 month period. Plus dealerships are notorious for doing mediocre detailing.
I washed, clayed, and polished the car in preparation for PPF and ceramic this week.

I think I’m going to reschedule my PPF and try to fix it with some touch up paint so it will at least be slightly less noticeable.

Well I may have messed my paint up in a few spots, but atleast I made the car look better overall (in my opinion)

What the hell kind of Orbital did you use? Holy hell, and worse, you munched the paint, and kept going.

GolfCoyote I think it's worth getting a quote from a body shop on touching that up before you do PPF ...my experience with touch-up paint is that it's kinda hard to do right.

I’m dropping the car off at the PPF shop today and they are going to take a look at the spot near the front emblem and see what they can do. We’ll see what happens.

Also…….was driving home from work this morning, I happened to ask the car to take me home (which I don’t usually do being as I know the way), and it told me “I hope you have a ‘fun’ drive home.” Is that its way of learning that I love to drive it ever so slightly above the posted speed limit on the way home from work? 🤣 |

While I still feel dumb about damaging my paint I feel a little less dumb after talking to the PPF shop. They were saying that these newer cars all use water based paints and its super easy to burn through it with an orbital. Expensive lesson to learn, but now I know. I'll only be polishing and waxing this car by hand from now on.
I pick it up from PPF/tint tomorrow. Barely had a chance to drive it since I was installing all those parts last weekend and its been in the shop most of this week. Only 308 miles on it, and thats after a 2025 mile drive from the dealership lol

No unfortunately not. I’ll just get it properly repaired down the road, later this year maybe.

The RORO vessel has finally arrived at Auckland NZ, she's at anchor at the mouth of the shipping channel awaiting the arrival of a pilot to guide her in. According to the tracking page it's due to dock in about 10 hours time. Then apparently the real waiting begins!
UPDATE: Dealer phoned me, the car should be ready for collection in about 3 weeks as long as it wasn't seriously damaged in transit. I've waited this long, another 3 weeks is nothing. Last edited by Straykiwi; 04-03-2024 at 06:37 PM.. |
