Yes, tint an absolute must for me on a modern car. It's literally one of my first moves right after delivery. It's not a question of it being "cool" or not. If you live in a warm weather climate, it's a must. I live in New England and the weather sucks for about 6-7 months of the year but it's still a must for me. For privacy alone it's worth it not to mention it keeps your interior in better shape, helps with sensitive eyes, etc.

I can definitely see my KO seats through my 30% tint. Maybe not at blackest night, but during the day, absolutely.

It hasn't been abandoned at all. In fact, it's ramping up in usage. The BMW iX has it, Porsche Taycan, and it's trickling down to some lower level cars as well like the Toyota Venza.

I like not being Vitamin D deficient. Also, I tend to track my cars so I like to have complete side visibility, in addition to being able to see at night.
Seems that most people get it because it makes the car look better and heat protection is secondary. I can understand tint in warmer climate but I never understood limo type tint, or tinting windshield. Not false at all, depends on the glass material/layers used. Also depends on which UV light you're talking about. |

I run 92%VLT all the way around, including windshield. The whole purpose for me is to keep the car cooler and prevent sun bake.
On the racetrack and at the dragstrip tint is frowned upon because you can’t see the driver easily. I’d also prefer that cops can see into my car and view my gray hair, for maximum speeding ticket reduction effect!

A long time ago, I bought a beater that had tinted windows, as I drove the car home after buying it, I got pulled over for tinted windows. It was right at the legal limit when they measured but I took it off shortly after anyways. |

I had my G80 tinted the 2nd day I got it — it was my first car I’ve ever had tinted, and now I feel like an idiot for never having tinting my previous rides. The tint is amazing - so much heat rejection, added privacy, and there are plenty of times I don’t need sunglasses now. Plus I think the car looks a lot better. I got a 15% tint all around and 70% “clear” on the windshield.

The older I get, the darker tint I apply because now I can afford to just reapply it if/when I get a ticket to remove it. I have limo all around but the fronts are one shade lighter (after being sited for limo on the fronts). I even tint the windshield.
I think it definitely looks cooler and and it is cooler inside which is nice. Hate the fish bowl and I've tinted every vehicle I ever owned for almost 40 years now. Fuck tint laws! |

Tint laws are to protect law enforcement. But some states have ridiculous rules. Here in Georgia the law is 33% if I’m not mistaken +/- 5% and nothing on the windshield. I’ve been pulled over with 20% and 90% windshield and I lowered all the windows. The cop asked if it was illegal and I said no I just did that so he could see in the car. He let me off but he was looking for a reason to ticket me.
Regardless, I don’t understand where no tint is allowed on the front driver/passenger windows- totally unacceptable law and should be changed. We the people- right? |

Well, what they come with doesn't mean the law dictates this... but I understand your point and didn't realize the laws were different for cars vs crossovers vs SUVs. I'm glad the M3 comes without tint because I prefer it without. But the X7 is clutch with the tint - definitely necessary

Tint is the first thing I always get done after purchasing a car. 15% on the sides and rear. I dont wanna be seen in the car, and feel like a fish in bowl without tint. I also pick my nose a lot while driving🤣😆

This has been debated for years. For 40 years in fact. It’s state by state but in California in the early 1980s a CHP officer pulled over a car that had 5% tint on its sides and he cracked his window and asked the officer what was the problem and he said his rear brake light was out. Well come to find out the guy in the tinted car was a felon on the run and he shot the officer point blank in the face and the cop didn’t even see it coming.
I was told this in court by a judge in the 1990s when I challenged California’s bullshit tint law. I ended up paying $20 to the marshal and $20 for the court fee. I went back out the next day and retinted the car. I don’t follow California’s gun laws or their tint laws. I am too old for that and I didn’t follow Hawaiis lowered car or recon laws. All total rubbish. Here in Arizona tint laws aren’t bad at all because of the summers. Everyone has extreme tint. Thats the way of life here. |
