BMW provided the engine for the Mclaren F1 so is perfectly capable of building high end cars like its rivals Porsche, Aston, etc. It just chooses to focus on a different market for its business.

Love BMW, but not sure if I want to spend that much on a car like that. I’m sure it’s all about the history and rareness but I can get 2 nice Porsches with that price! Just my 2 cents!

And let’s not forget that these will be appreciating assets (a one of 200 57 507 sold back in 2018 for $5M), so if you have the money and you are enough of a BMW afficiando to be given an invitation to buy one, then why not?

That is not a good bet. The market for a $700,000 2023 BMW is microscopic, and even in 50 years, this car will never have the pedigree that a 507 has.

How BMW went from that gorgeous bespoke concept with a proposed transaxle setup to this tarted up M4 with a body kit & a stock gearbox that you have to regularly replace if you actually intend to drive the bloody thing is beyond me.
This thing is not for car enthusiasts to own/drive, it’s an investment for the wealthy that like to gamble on future values. Nothing more than a pathetic money grab from BMW. What a joke.

However, I would speculate that while I agree it is a microscopic market , I bet there were more than 50 people worldwide who wanted to buy one, so when (if?) any do come on the pre-owned market (and I would assume that like other manufacturers BMW as a condition of sale will prohibit resale for a period of time) I am confident they will sell at a premium.

While I don’t disagree with your opening paragraph, if you could create 50 of something and sell them for a high price (and presumably meaningful profit, not to mention the PR buzz) you wouldn’t do it because it would be a “pathetic money grab” and “a joke”? 🤔 And being wealthy doesn’t preclude being an enthusiast who drives their high value cars … look at all the owners of historic cars worth millions who regualrly race them.

If BMW had built the proposed car with the engineering & manufacturing progression it represented we would have all loved what they had done regardless of the proposed market & pricing etc. However they simply chose to build a tarted up M4 instead…nothing more. Congrats to BMW marketing on this blatant money grab technique & the ability to part 50 suckers & their cash, hell they could have probably found 150, no shortage of fools with money 🙄. Despite obviously being targeted at said “investors/gamblers”, this thing is akin to wearing a gold plated dog turd around your neck just because you can.

Not sure why everyone always brings up “I can buy this or that”. If you could do that and it makes you feel good, by all means do it. But throwing out Porsche just because you think it’s a better car to diminish this car is irrelavant. I’m sure someone who can buy Ferrari’s or some other exotic is probably laughing “Porsche. Lulz”
Clearly someone who can afford this car or any car in the price range can likely afford almost any car. Hell, probably has all the Porsche GT cars already. |

Sounds as if civility is too much for you. If I was spending that much on a sports car, performance would my primary focus; he might also be a collector, therefore performance for that price range may not have been a primary consideration. I was just stating my opinion.

There is an absolutely absurd amount of silliness going on over a car 99.99% of people on here cant afford.
1. If he has the money, let the man do with it what he wants. 2. Just because you can't/won't buy it does not meant he should follow your lead. 3. Your justification of value or actual worth it just irrelevant. People that buy this car are likely purchasing it for its exclusivity to place in a collection and potentially sell for absurd profit down the road. and to the dude assuming age and privilege......shame bro lol
