I bet the new iD8 would be something but I'm not sure I like the new dash...
Maybe in a few years our conventional dash will look outdated IDK

My car is a sept. build 2022 car and according to the press release I should already have the latest software but don't see anything in the settings for M sound control.. I mean, there's the exhaust button near the shifter but I thought that just opens/closes the valves.

I wonder how much you can ‘configure’ the sound.
Just the volume? Or maybe the ASD tone too?
Either way it’s always good to have more control/options.

I was hoping they would have allowed the M tach in the HUD in this update.

Does anyone (in Germany) have a copy of the M sound control control screen they can share ? Keen to see what the options might be. Thanks in advance.

I have 7-21.02 in my July build car that I took delivery of in Sept. The M sound control settings are on or off. *MY* understanding is off turns off the fake sound and closes the valves.

I coded it off with Bimmercode so I get rid off the fake sound (Active Sound Design) but the valves still open and give me more real exhaust sound.

As of about a week ago, if you have a car with 7-21 and you want to code out ASD you need a testflight version of Bimmercode available through Bimmercode support. You have to send a support email from the app.

I don't understand what m sound control is. Is it fake engine and exhaust noise?

I very highly doubt that given Tesla's dash never appealed to me and still feels like a downgrade. You need tactile surfaces that can be comfortably/ergonomically manipulated without looking at them. A touch screen is not it.

And the finger print smudges. Yuck. I never use the touchscreen on my X5. There's a microfiber cloth in the car to manage any accidental screen touches.

I installed it yesterday. Two things: you can change m sound control from on/off per drive mode, the start roar is changed and the burbles changed a lot too. I'm driving the 6mt and overrun has often some very deep burbles which it didn't before, sounds like you are driving over something on the road, so deep it is. People told me the exhaust sounds better now from the outside too.

How do you know if you got the update? Mine seem to update by itself. Is there a version number?

I had to download it with the MyBMW app and upload to the car, then it did the update. I doubt it would do it on its own as it needs 20 minutes for the update. Version is 07/2021.50

I mostly agree with you.
However, I personally like to have the 'latest and greatest', except for when it comes to electric vs. ICE, and automatic vs. manual

Although I haven't seen one in person but looking at the pictures, I think the wide LCD dash looks more... contemporary.
Better than the current dash? I'm not too sure.

Very excited to hear this.
I wonder if the cars manufactured the past couple of weeks already have this update installed...

M Sound control is a combination of fake sound and what your exhaust valves do.

M Sound control on and you get fake sound plus your exhaust valves are open and some are saying now you get more pops and burbles.

M Sound control off and you get (or at least got) no fake sound but the exhaust valves didn’t open for as aggressive of a sound.

The new update seems to work a little different but I can honestly say I like mine the way it is, with no fake sound.

DD, how are are you getting "no fake sound" right now? Through Coding? I tried it, but I don't think it worked. I didn't hear a change.

So the M Sound Control is now separate from the exhaust button? You can now have the exhaust button "on" and the M Sound (fake sound) off? If so, that would be great.

And did you have anything coded? I wonder if the update affects coded cars.
