yeah, because the b58 has issues with drinking oil. Since 85k isn't a little amount of money to me and this car will stay with me for 6+ years, I like to do some research first..

The B58 in my X3 M40i has been perfectly fine with oil consumption over the last 2.5 years. 🤷🏻

69 votes of yes….out of the likely tens of thousands of vehicles sold with the engine. Doesn't seem like it's a huge issue.

lol 63 out of 118 isn't significant? that's 53%. Yes, i understand some don't post on the forums, but there are also some that have consumption that don't post as well. Anyways moot point at this point. Glad s58 seems solid so far.

I put on almost 5k miles after my 1200 mile break in service and the oil level hasn't moved. I've been lucky with none of my cars burning oil.

I have around 4000 miles on this oil change and it hasn't budged. Lets all hope they got this engine right with no famous BMW issues. They've had a lot of time to get it right with these turbo cars.

So, unlike "normal" cars, these BMWs have to be put on a "oil measuring" mode that lasts about 1-2min., not including the warm up time.

Is this what you guys are doing to check your engine oil level? Or am I missing something.

This is also a bit of a complain that it seems unreasonable to NOT have a $10 (tops) dipstick that can help you get an instant read out of your engine oil level when doing an oil change yourself.

yup, no other way to measure. it's not very accurate either. sometimes it reads 1/2 qt low and you only add 200 ml and it'll show full again.

I seriously hope the S58 does not consume oil the way the B58 does. My S55 didn't consume any oil between changes but my B58 consumes 1 liter every 3500 miles.

And how accurate is the system? I knew I hit about 4000 miles since my last service in my 2020 M340i and the light had not come on, so last week I decided to check the oil level and it said I needed to add TWO quarts. All I had was half a liter so I added that and checked again, and it says it's at max. Ugh.

8k miles in various conditions and electronic measurement says full. Doing an oil test in next few weeks so will see how the engine is coping. Also doing a change though not needed in uk apparently as we have less dust and heat.
