Because most transmission programming have gotten so good even professional race cars drivers leave it to the cars brains. The paddles have been rendered useless IMO and there are too many gears to keep track of. You can't beat the computer. If you want to do it yourself, manual is the way to go.

It's really informative and the camera shots are epic. It's an enjoyable watch for BMW fans.

I do not think there is any indication on this forum that you are an outlier . . . the BMW grille design is atrocious.

The sad thing is that the G80/82 grilles - as atrocious as they are - are better than the atrocities seen throughout other models in the BMW lineup.

So, yah, the front grilles are fucking hideous and I am appalled every time I look at the front of my G80C . . . however, the performance is why I bought the G80C and it has exceeded my high expectations going into the purchase.

I guess it is simply a matter of what you are hoping to get out of your purchase? If it is design architecture, I do not blame you for jumping the BMW ship. . . if it is performance, I cannot imagine you would be disappointed with the G80/82.

Another thing….

…this video makes me miss my '05 IB ZCP M3, the only M3 that even comes close to the sentimental value of my recently sold Nardo F8X M4.

Excellent taste - E46 ZCP is so good.

Loved the IB so much, had to grab two (almost a decade after release, though). I miss them.

Yes. He always does this as it is the Porsche way. He did the same with the M2CS. That costs quite a bit of time and explains the poorer results. You need to self shift. BMW auto programming is best for switching your brain off and commuting which makes perfect sense. Why would you not want to change your own gears when _driving_ (as opposed to getting from a to b)?

Also. I don't care what anyone says. I like how it looks. I bet it will age very well.

BS…
What the majority of the CS owners hate about the G80 is the design.
A newer generation should always improve, but not at the expense of killing the design - at least for the majority of the BMW enthusiasts, not just CS owners.

We could discuss about OPF, carbon shaft, rear brake, weight, whatever… At the end what really matters is driving pleasure and how appealing the car looks (personal preference, of course).

However despite all those claims about the performance of the G80, I’m still waiting for the Nürburgring times

That's why I don't take any car show seriously, they're just for entertainment purpose.

The presenters always make blanket statements like that. They don't own the cars, they haven't lived with them for a few years. They're providing their opinion based on a 4hr test drive!
Agreed, the F80 did a lot of things really well, especially the later years. My CS is one of the best cars is the 2nd best car I've ever driven behind my G80.
The F80 may be a good car, but once you take it out of a vacuum it gets obliterated. The early versions were especially bad.

There's no reason an M3 should get out-handled by a base SS Camaro, but it happened.
I would agree, I actually hated my base F80. I was new to the brand coming from the S4 in 2016 and specc'd my first F80 without the comp pack for no other reason than the fact that I hadn't seen the 666M wheels in person and was unsure I would like them. I hated the way it handled. MPHAS and coding in CS differential and suspension settings helped but it wasn't until I tracked my friends ZCP for 120 laps at Monticello that I really fell in love with the F80.

The CS, however, is a dream. I am having shoulder surgery Monday and will be out of my 6MT G80 for a few weeks and back in my CS and I'm very interested after 2 weeks in my G80 how it will feel to me.

Mmm yea the new generation will be better than even a prior cs model but the exclusivity of having a non mass produced car still holds some value for folks. I’ve had crazy thoughts of trading my m2 cs for a g80 comp but then I remember why I got out of my f80 comp to begin with and it primarily didn’t feel special enough unless you’re doing some individual paint
I completely agree.

My point is in most sub-communities of the overall BMW community and overall car enthusiast community, the new design m3/m4 is (at worst) 50% well received. A lot of us didn't like it initially because it was such a huge change, some of us still don't like it, but in general the opinion (as well as a poll conducted here) for people that have actually seen the car is 50% for, 50% against.

The CS community it's about 99% against, 1% for. Now, why would that be? Lol.

See the prior post. Have you driven the car yet? As a CS owner of 2.5 years I can say that the G80 is an improvement in every single way…also, it does not hurt to have a center console haha.

I understand a lot of where you're coming from and a lot of people don't like the design sure. CS owners disproportionately HATE the design.

really engaging video. And to me, the verdict is just one (and the right one) we have the real M3 back. Fun to drive, engaging, fast. Just perfect. Thanks BMW!

Yes, it not JUST the front grilles . . .

And I also agree, the G82 crossed a threshold when it comes to my ability overlook design architecture in favor of performance.

Really goes to show just how 'off-track' the design architects at BMW have gotten, as the F82 is really appealing to my visual senses.

I think if you put a gun to my head I'd probably say the F80 is the best looking out of all the models of the most recent 2 generations.

That said - if looks was the most important thing then I'd probably just be driving a Giulia.

Looking at the G8X forum activity/comments and G8X's that have sat on my local dealers lots even during this car shortage, I'd argue there is way more than 50% against. After briefly driving a Sao Paulo G82, there's no question the car performs better than my F80 and the interior is stunning, but that's about it.

Preference differs, but there's not one exterior line on the car that is more attractive than an F8X CS model. Even if your anecdotal "50% for" sample size poll number is correct, I believe there's significantly less people willing to put money down for a G8X; yet the F8X keeps marching up in resale. My guess, in one year your used G80 could be worth less than your used F80 CS.

It might be great to drive but I don't know how anyone justifies buying a car that looks so atrocious. Thankfully the G87 M2 isn't too far into the future for those who want the S58 in a decent looking package (if the current renders are to be believed).
