My opinion after three months in my new M3
At nearly three months of ownership, I want to make a general statement about the new M3, specifically the manual 6MT.
The more I drive this car, the more I love this car. It is one of the most satisfying cars I have ever driven and certainly owned. The more I drive the car, the better it feels (it is breaking in) at 1200 miles, I have to say it just keeps feeling smoother. It is not a cheap car, but in comparison to other makes and models in it's class, this car for me lives up to the well known BMW motto - "Ultimate Driving Experience". It is by no means perfect, but it is the most perfect car for me, I have owned. I also love the aggressive look of this car. With the advent of the "future EV world", this iteration of the "M3/M4" in my opinion makes a clear statement from BMW that we are going out with a bang! If that is indeed the case (I hope not). If you are considering the new M3 or M4, in any spec, I would not hesitate to seek an allocation, it is a superb automobile in all aspects you would want: Build Quality, Looks, Performance and comfort. It has exceeded my expectations and at ~$80K + depending on spec, it is also an excellent value for the level of engineering on offer. Rant over. Long live the ICE M performance assembly line and congratulations to BMW on such a winner on the horizon of a new automotive world!! |

I agree, the more I drive it the more I like it. I'm very glad I went with the manual, it's so much fun to drive. I don't care about 0-60 or 1/4 mile times, I just love driving this thing around town

100% agreed! I’m 3050mi in and I loved every second of every mi I’ve driven. The first 1200mi have been absolutely love/hate, not being able to take it above 4k rpm, but handles like no other car I’ve ever driven.
+1 on 0-60 and 1/4 times being meaningless. 6MT is a blessing and I missed the 3rd pedal so much in the past 8 years. If you can get one, get one! |

Kart, boat and the G80 and a zero mile per day commute, I feel lucky I was able to hit 1200! I did break in svc at 900 but can feel the car, especially the clutch and shifter breaking in and getting smoother with every drive. If I had to commute, I could see hitting 2k-3k a month, but being less than a mile from the beach, my drives are short. My miles on the M3 are mainly fun drives cruising or hauling family to an event. I bought both M3's for pure pleasure and they both deliver above and beyond! |

I crossed the 3 month mark two days ago and have also loved every day with this car and my third pedal. |

Great to see all of these positive comments!
I'm at 1400 miles (I think it's been four weeks) and I'd have a few more but for that annoying gas shortage that we had (my other car had gas in it). Every time I drive it, the transmission just seems to get better and better. That, and I'm getting used to it. Nice that I'm past the break-in service and can start letting those RPMs get up there where they belong.

I appreciate you guys posting your impressions. I’m currently trying to get my hands on an allocation for a M3 Base.
I have to admit I wasn’t blown away by my short test drive of the 6MT but figured, like you guys I’ve been out of the manual transmission game for too long and it was me not the car. From what I’m gathering it was both. Enjoy the car in good health and hopefully I’ll get one before the year is out. |

How true is this?
The M3 Competition's steering is quick and heavy, but also very synthetic, something Roadshow managing editor Steven Ewing mentioned in his review of the standard model. "The speed-sensitive, variable-ratio setup means the M3 turns in quickly and instantly responds to changes in direction, but the whole experience is lifeless," https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/review...-sedan-review/

In normal driving I don’t think the steering in the G82 I drove is any worse than any other car I’ve drive. Since I don’t own one yet I can’t speak to spirited driving. |

However to your point about 'allocations' over here in the UK there are a number of new ones floating about in the dealer network with decent specs. Also in the last week or so they've even started popping up on the Approved Used locator - which I assume are ex-press/demo/BMW internal fleet cars. So if you're not overly fussy about speccing your car from scratch there are a number out there, approved used is the route I will take (so someone else has picked up the tab for intial depreciation and running in service!). |

Yeah, I should have said, these are all Competition/8AT models - no 6MT for the UK as we don't get the option of non-Comp...
