That is not a dumb question at all! As Bimmer said above, it still has both.

Yes, not really about the money for me, may seem stupid but I just don't like the little camera dot in the center of the grills haha.

Edit: oops I thought you meant the radar. The camera dot is minuscule imo.

Shame because some of the tech it adds is pretty cool, and I would've specced it if it was better integrated into the bodywork

It can be found in the My BMW app. You click on BMW Driver's Guide -> PDF Manuals -> Owners Manual. If you do not own the car yet, then I am not sure where you can find one, but I would believe they exist on the internet somewhere.

Just did this out of curiosity, and FWIW I would recommend that everyone whether you track your car or not remove these and check periodically. After only 2 months mine held a significant number of leaves, and a chunk of styrofoam.

Good call. I will check mine out today. Did you have to remove the covers, or did you just remove the stuff while the wheel was locked?

You have to take the covers off. They are far to the inside of the wheel well so you will have to turn the wheel outward as far as it will go. Just lift up on the tab, and they will pop out. When reinstalling, again lift the tab up and press it into place.

Cool, thanks. I will take pics of the process when I get around to it this week.

BMW don't release them to the public. These are training documents that technically aren't supposed to be shared or posted. You must log into BMWs TIS to access these documents.

Does anyone else find it odd that the "service life" of the transfer case in the G80 is listed by BMW as 93,000 miles? Shouldn't this last longer?
So I assume that means they recommend you replace your transfer case at 93,000 miles? From page 59:

The word choice really doesn't make sense. At 93k miles, there will be a code thrown until the "lifetime" fill of oil is replaced and code cleared. Transfer case shouldn't need to be replaced.

They're talking about the transfer case oil not the transfer case assembly. It's not uncommon for AWD vehicles to have a fault for VTG oil wear. Won't pop up as a check control or any malfunction but when doing a vehicle test with ISTA you will see it and that's when a tech would recommend it.

Couple of interesting (to me at least!) observations on a couple of points raised in this thread;
Firstly - did anyone else notice that the back of the little cooling duct plug pieces had 'F90' embossed in the moulding? I know there are many little (and not so llittle) bits and bobs shared across models/model ranges, but interesting to see a trivial M5 specific part on the G8x! Also on the snippet someone posted about the transfer case & its oil, there's a warning about ensuring the same tread wear and tyre/tire manufacturer etc. If any of you watch the 'Car Wizard' channel on YT, you might have seen he did a recent episode on a Jeep (Cherokee IIRC) with a blown transmission/transfer box. Apparently this had been caused by mixed tyres triggering a false reading on slip sensors, which in turn left the box permanently engaged and caused it to fail. |
