Order now or wait three months for a 2022 M3?
I've decided to order an M3. However we are now pretty close to the start of production for MY22 in July. I don't think the 2022 order guides have come out yet. Have there been any rumors about equipment or price changes for the 2022 M3 other than the availability of AWD?
I am approved for BMW financing at 0.9%. That rate is locked for another 80 days (I was approved about 10 days ago and BMW provides 90 day locks to West Coast customers). If I wait for a 2022 I will have to reapply and BMW may not still be offering 0.9% financing. Every 1% increase in interest rates increases your monthly payment the same as a $2000 increase in the vehicle price would so it's meaningful. Balancing out the risk of higher interest rates is the certainty of lower depreciation (in 3 years a 2022 will be worth a couple $K more than a 2021) and the possibility of bigger dealer discounts and incentives, though I have currently negotiated a $3500 (~4.5%) discount and I'm eligible for another $1500 to $3000 in incentives (military, loyalty and BMWCCA) depending on whether or not I use BMW or third party financing, which is pretty strong for the current market. What do you think - order now or wait 3 months for the second model year?

Won't the May allocations likely be for 2022 builds? I thought the switch over to 2022 is in mid to late July as my dealership told me that in order to go forward with my individual order BMW said I would have to delay it to be a 2022 model and a July build. Which I was then under the assumption it would be a May allocation since my March allocation was for a May build when I wasn't doing individual.

I believe if I place an order this week without Individual options it will be built in June before the cutoff and arrive here in California in July/August. I will confirm...

It's definitely possible depending upon on what allocations the dealership has and for what build date. Perhaps they still have some June build dates?

If you wait for a 22 then you’ll kick yourself for not getting a 23 with all the LCI upgrades. You only live once and something newer will always be there ...just pull the trigger already

There’s pro and con to waiting - if I order today I can get a $3500 dealer discount, $1500-$3000 of factory incentives and 0.9%-1.49% financing. Who knows if some of those things change for MY22. What’s certain about waiting is that the car I get will always be viewed by the market as a year newer. |

Am I correct in stating that if you wait the MY22 will just be the AWD. Then there is another wait until July (?) for the LCI?
Is that the timeline?

I’m in the same dilemma as you. As much as I’d like to get one right now, patience is a virtue. I figure if I don’t pull the trigger now for a MY21, I might as well wait it out for a MY23 for the LCI.

Update: always go for the bird in hand. After passing on the 2021 allocation that was offered to me, my dealership hasn't been able to deliver a 2022 allocation for 3 months. I have now decided to cancel my order and buy a non-BMW vehicle for the first time in nearly 20 years. Bittersweet.
