Final Farewell F90 to G80 - a side by side look

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Today was the last day with MY21 F90 M5 Comp LCI. It was kind of bitter sweet since the F90 did everything you could want in luxury and style except for 1 thing. Feel connected to the road like the new G80. I've tracked both cars and the M5 is capable but is just too heavy and isn't as direct.

Either way they are both the best of what BMW has to currently offer. Enjoy the pics!!

Nice cars. I see you have a thing for red. You will like Toronto Red as it can look quite different depending on the light conditions. I get a lot of comments on my X3M because of how it stands out with the red paint.

The M5 seems to be good at plenty things but still misses the X factor of engagement. Closest I've had was a '16 M6 GC competition. Lovely car but just not enough fun at legal speeds.

Enjoy the G80!

Congrats on the new G80, I drove it and tracked it and it's a nice machine indeed. You went from F90 LCI, that's was a quick change I believe. I am comparing both for my coming car and for 10 track days a year, the F90 practicality is almost winning my decision (I assume it should be enjoyable for the rest 355 day&#128512, I am coming from F82. Your input is highly appreciated as I never drove F90 or tracked it either - what did you mean by the F90 is missing road connection?

Thank you and enjoy in good health.

I had both an F90 and F82. The F90 is the definition of a big GT car. It is very, very fast in all situations and has a tremendous amount of grip. Unfortunately it is so good at everything that it is a little boring and that is where the lack of engagement starts to creep in.

It feels pedestrian at anything less than 90% and at 90% your pace is so high that very bad things can happen if anything goes wrong. You can't really mash the throttle out of any corner for more than a second or two before you are well into triple digits. It feels like a caged tiger in most situations which leads to some frustration most of the time.

the g80 looks gorgeous and so much aggressive than the (wonderful) F90 LCI.

It's really interesting your swap; the connection you are mentioning is the most important point of why I've ordered a G80 too. Thanks for sharing your opinions a nd photos.

by the way.....the Aventurine red II of your F90 looks really, really good.!

Enjoy your new M3 and please, let us know about your feedbacks and impressions of what it deliveres in terms of feeling expectations and performances.

I went through the same exact change. Dumped the F90 for the G80. Best decision I've made. Truly the M3 and M4 will always be the true M car. I don't mind throwing away a slightly more quiet and smooth drive for everyday fun with the G80.

That's a nice F90!

Need to send me pics of the G80 and your thoughts on it. I just test drove and F82 yesterday and really liked it.

F90 does lack engagement. G80 is pure driving enjoyment!

The M5 is very capable at the track overall but lacks engagement of a smaller lighter car with quicker steering. The G80 feels alive where the M5 is smooth. I didn't want or need AWD or all of the added luxury (massaging seats, etc). The G80 M3 Comp interior is on par with the M5 and doesn't feel like a step down at all just sportier.

F90 is Motegi Red.

My impressions of the M5.

- Fast, fast, fast for a 4 door car with so much luxury. I ran a 10.9@127 stock

- Comfort and luxury items are very nice. Fit and finish is great and the car is aggressive looking in my opinion.

G80 M3

- Steering is quick and direct. Car feels like it is on rails and is a huge plus compared to the M5.

- Power is great and the car pulls hard although no where near as fast as the M5.

- S58 engine has a very mechanical feel and sound to it while sitting and idling. Believe it or not it reminds me of a couple Porsche's I've owned.

Thanks for your comment! Love the last one. I've always liked the sound of the Porsche's flat six. If it is in some ways, comparable to it....I Think it is a good thing. There's a video of a Porsche driver that drives the new M3, and he says exactly the same thing. It sounds like a Porsche, and he says also: "it's a good thing to me".

Enjoy your car....I have to be patient and wait......as my choice is the MXdrive.....

Any regrets on not waiting for the G80 w/ AWD. Would be more comparable to the M5.
