Lightbulb G81 M3 Touring Production Starts November 2022, in LCI Form

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Update on G81 M3 Touring:
  • For the readers outside North America: G81 will start production in November 2022 and have a full run up to the end of production of G21.
  • There will be a single model: Competition xDrive.
  • As expected, it will be in LCI configuration (for instance, the new i4 widescreen dash will be standard).
  • As far as I can see, everything that you can have on a G80, will be available on G81.
For G81 spy photos see: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1751783

If the G81 has the i4 dash in 11/22, then presumably the G80 will get it either then or four months earlier when the G20 does.

But where does this leave the G82/G83? Will they also get it by 11/22? Or will they get it when the G22/G23/non-i4-G26 do in 3/23?

I'm not sure if a CF roof will be available for the Touring. First infos some months ago were saying that the touring will not get an CF roof.

Bring it to the states. I put my wagon money where my mouth is! I'll come back to brand. I'll even settle for being forced into the Auto (though a MT would be welcome)

This is indeed interesting. This would mean that a significant part of the M3 interior would change after just 1.5 years since its introduction.

I wonder what they will do with the M4 since the 4 series LCI will be in about 3 years or so. Will they change the M4 interior at the same time as the M3 (which means before the actual 4 series) or will the M4 have the "old" interior until the 4 series LCI (which would mean that the M3 and the M4 would have different interiors).

If they bring it I'll get over my reluctance to have autos and dislike of AWD and I'll buy one as well. Even if that means having two G8Xs in the driveway

I think the big takeaway here should be that production will be continuous through the end of G21 series prod. The original leaks concurrent with the teaser announcement called for a limited run of ~1000 units total.
This tells me demand is higher than initially anticipated... if one is hoping for a US run this might be a small step in the right direction

the i4 dash isn't really news because it was already noted in the upcoming model thread the 3 series LCI would include it. the M3 follows the 3 series for interior and rear end, 4 series for front exterior. Also, if you really look into it the i4 dash is not that big of a difference. As a design element it is 1 continuous glass panel but functionally it is still 2 separate screens following most of the same function as today. In the current design the two screens are basically on top of each other this just connects the gloss surround as a design element and increases size of the dash screen somewhat

It is and likely will be my last manual ever. Will replace it with an RS after this. The E63 is actually gone. I have a panamera gts wagon on order. The e63 was nice but had more than a handful of things I hated. First and last mercedes. But it was fun on track, my wife and I put these things to work!! (My macan GTS has seen a few track days as well. If I own it, it earns it's keep)

Wow, so does this mean that the G80 and G82 will come with the giant screen also starting from LCI onwards? I REALLY don't want this screen on my future build but i'm currently not ready to buy a pre-LCI model just yet.

I've been saying this all along. The decision to delay the G80 launch until the G82 means the G80 has to be refreshed as soon as its base model G30 sedan changes. For the F80, not only was there a LCI refresh a year after launch there was a second LCI refresh a year after that again when the F32 also got its refresh and required the G82 to be refreshed.

After my experience with the F80 launch I'll be waiting for the LCI v1 or v2 before pulling the trigger this time.

Great news! Perhaps the LCI will include a redesigned front end as well.

I think that would definitely be the price point, plus even a non-refundable deposit.

Again, I'm 100% down.

Gauging by the interest level, G81 will sell and sell well. Bypassing USA and Canadian markets would not be a profitable decision.
