G8x M3/M4 seats review - standard vs carbon buckets
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com The regular seats should not be an option on an M3. Although the carbon buckets can be stiff for a casual driver, they provide the exact comfort that you would expect while having serious rigidity of a carbon fiber bucket. Think Porsche but more comfortable, probably because it's adjustable. In my experience today, the regular seats provide no support. They might be good for casual day-to-day driving, but there's no chance of you staying in place if you try any spirited drives. I tried to deflate the lumbar support and increase the bolstering to its max and I still barely felt any support. I'd say I'm a regular built at 5'10 and 165 lb for reference. The carbon bucket gives you support in all the right places and the bolstering button allows you to choose just how much movement you want in the seat. I could see the comfort of the ride being compromised on long drives but I think it is 100% the right choice for anyone even remotely planning on doing spirited drives. Also, the center piece in the carbon bucket is unnoticeable if that was anyone's concern. I'd also add that for taller owners, the carbon buckets drastically add more leg room for rear-seat passengers seeing as the seat loses about 1/3rd of its overall size. Moving onto the steering wheel/paddles. It definitely feels more premium. I found 1 complaint with the paddles in both the carbon interior package and the regular. The carbon paddles, although they feel nice and premium, are a little too far in. This is just nitpicking at this point but to clarify, when comparing the f8x paddle shifters, I prefer how the paddles are closer to your actual fingers while the new paddles seem to be more on the end of your finger tips. The non carbon pack paddles are the same as a non M 3 series so I'd say that's a bit of a shame considering the car's almost $90,000 when well-specced. Overall, the interior is great but I just could not see myself ever wanting the comfort seats unless I strictly planned on using this as a grocery getter. |

How does the CF seat compared to F8x competition?

Great input! From what I've gathered on your impressions, are the carbon bucket seats in the new g80/g82 a more comfortable version of the bucket seats you find in the Porsche 918, GT3, GT4?
If so, that's perfect, as I can sit in the Porsche carbon bucket seats for 3-4 hours at a time with no problem. I'm 6'1" and 190 pounds with a muscular build for reference. Thanks for clarifying this! |

Why shouldn't the regular seats be an option here? By spirited, do you mean tracking? I drive my F80 spirited, and have never caught myself thinking, "if only I had CF seats". I actually really like the ones I've sat in in Porsches, and I'm sure they're great for plenty of folks, but everyone?
Also, plenty of cars cost far more, and have chintzy shift paddles. Not sure why they would be special here. I think it's just become standard for many manufacturers to just lazily slap on whatever works. Annoying, but not unique to the G8x. I do feel like they're a bit far away on these interiors. Thanks for the write up though!

Disappointing they've circumcised the base seats and made them more couch-like only to make space for optional buckets. Non-CP F8x seats were ideal in that regard.
But, again, everyone's built differently.

Literally one of the best features on this generation M.
General peasants in the wild I doubt will care. Unless it's for the "cool factor" But I believe a good majority of us forum members will check that box. It's a good time to be young and fit lol

Interesting that there's an X3/SUV displayed in the instrument cluster of an M3/4...

I'd say the f80 seat is in the middle of these 2. I've always found the f80 seat to be supportive but not extremely comfortable. Both seats are in polar spectrums but the f80 seat is definitely a happy medium, but I think it leans more towards the carbon bucket. If that makes any sense.

I'm almost certain those are the same paddles I mentioned in the regular interior of the M3. But disappointing to not have M specific paddles if you don't have the carbon fiber interior option.

I hated them but that's no reflection on how anyone should feel. I'm 6'1 and 250, and I hated moving my butt up and over the scalloped bottom part.
They look great though! And if you fit in them, more power to you.

By spirited driving I'm referring to any canyon runs or pretty much anything that has some kinds of twists and turns, so a track would more than obviously apply to that. In terms of the paddles, the F8x had premium paddles that were nice to the touch and unique to the car, wish they replicated that in the regular interior and made the carbon paddles in the carbon interior positioned identical to the f8x paddles. |

Not sure if you've ever been in a Porsche carbon bucket but I'd say it's fairly similar but a bit easier than the Porsche. If you haven't been in one, just expect it to be a bit annoying initially because of the side bolsters being so tall. When exiting the driver seat on the American wheel's side (for anyone reading this from a country with the opposing wheel side), I find myself using my right hand to push myself out of the bottom bolster and then my left hand pushes off from the back bolster to help me "jump out" of the seat. You definitely need to hop out of it since the side bolsters are much higher up than a regular seat but it's not that bad after a couple times.
Hopefully that clarified but let me know if you'd like more of an explanation. |

This is a pure guess but both cars don't have the M3/4 badges on the back so I'm assuming these were camo wrapped before the September reveal and so people taking spy shots of the interior would see the x5 instead of a new M3. Again, this is completely a pure guess.

I'd identify as an enthusiast, and I'd probably opt for the regular seats unless they're really not supportive. I'm not doing track driving and I'm not into a dick hump, even if it made out of CF. Not going to pretend this 4 door M3 is a track monster, at least not for me, since I'll prob just be using it as a daily especially since I want it equipped with the manual (non comp) car. But I will say that (IMO) most people, enthusiasts & "peasants" alike are only buying these seats bc they're a CF option and look "cool". But I def want to try them out before forming a final opinion, but aesthetically, I think they look way too gimmicky and kinda cheesy. |
