Its very useful. Ironically it's not available in my X3M Comp but it's been around for quite a while from Audi cars equipped with ZF transmissions. There is some sort of adaptation that allows it to quickly jump down gears efficiently causing no strain at all. I use it all the time on my S4

Just as with a DCT, there is nothing that mechanically prevents the 8AT from skipping gears, no harm done.

So when you're driving around in auto and click the paddle it only goes to manual for a period of time, then reverts back to auto. So like normal automatics throughout the BMW range.
In the F8X and E9X generation, as soon as you hit the paddle it stays in manual.

I am not concerned about the decrease in shift speed. I run the DCT in the slowest mode on the track, so I guess this is similar.

I agree, plus no mention of the manual. It is a drivetrain option after all. I know this was a Comp models video, but it would've been nice to include it.

Do Audi and Mercedes let you choose any color on the planet like BMW does?

Trust me, it's not a cool feature. If the lowest gear takes you within 100rpm of red line, it will still take you there, meaning an up shift needed almost straight away.

What a waste of time these videos are vs the tech info that was released in the F8x. Shows what demographic BMW is now targetting.
I know you're joking but B58 and S58 have solved the crank hub problem, there's no possibility to spin it anymore since it's all one solid piece instead of being held together by 1 bolt on the N54/N55/S55.

For sure the vert will be auto only.

That's why I have a BMS pedal stopper to never touch that kick down

Prevents me to use lunch control wich isn't a bad thing since it's one of the worst implementation of it lol.

I remember reading an interview with him where he said that the move from DCT to 8AT on the F90 M5 was the last straw for him.

To be clear, you're stating that he moved to Korea from Germany because of the transmission on the F90 M5?

Read it for yourself: https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...bert-biermann/

"Then a few things happened, like the double-clutch transmission was canceled for the M5, and I thought, “This is not my game anymore,” and I left."

So, an upshift while cornering (on track) might upset the car?

DCT is smarter than that. If the sensors on the car detect that the car is under lateral load, the DCT will execute a seamless butter smooth shift. You can upshift without issue while cornering with a DCT because there is no interruption of power delivery and therefore no sudden back and forth weight transfer.

My question was specific to this new ZF8.

I've experienced the M-DCT on track and it's one of the best parts of the F8x.

Sorry, I misinterpreted. I did drive an F90 M5 on track quite extensively, but I did not try upshifting mid-corner with it. You do feel that small pause in acceleration on upshift but it might not be enough to significantly upset the chassis unless you are at the absolute limit.
