I bet anything by december 15th we see a ton of actual reviews.
At least these guys know who to invite...

This is what is missing from the BMW marketing campaign. The history of the car, how the new car is different/improved but still linked to the tradition of earlier cars. Porsche nails this, BMW has completely lost it. That is what separates enthusiasts from people who view their cars as appliances or a way to reinforce their "image".

Absolutely, it wouldn’t interfere with the social media attempts to sow the seeds in younger aspirational segments. There is more than enough room for both to coexist. Hopefully it’s just a matter of a few weeks until this is corrected.

That’s the thing, BMW seem very clear they want to break that link with history on this car.

You guessed right. I have a 992 turbo on order for summer 2021 delivery. I figured if I make the move, might as well make it worth it .
yessir! performance on another level .. congrats and looking forward to hearing your review! I am tossing around G80, C8 Z06 and various 992s ... no wrong choices.

I don't think anyone hates her, the hate is on BMW lol! She's good at what she does, get attention and influence though social media, she's a automotive social media star not a journalist. Most of the reviews at this point have been social media icons, not journalists. Social media whilst it's good it dilutes the real automotive journalist. I'm looking forward to a Tiff or Chris review in the near future (Chris Harris initial review on the exterior was slightly harsh and hilarious).

You can argue that the marketing approach may not resonate with you and that the G8x takes another step away from the enthusiast's view of ///M cars, but to me it's very clear BMW is still making an effort to keep that link with its history:

No they are not. Kith has zero part in BMW ///M history. They are just using the "image" of ///M history.

Gathering two dozen clean ///M cars and rewarding their proud owners by revealing a special edition M4 and getting their cars featured in such video doesn't count I guess

I'm not trying to argue with you, we have different perspectives...

///M cars have always been the high-performance motorsport-inspired version of the series they are based on (M1 does not count). They still are today, but times changed and so did the cars. ///M still stands for Motorsport, but doesn't mean BMW is going to sell street legal race cars.

Even the E30 M3 which is arguably one of the purest ///M cars with the best Motorsport legacy came to the US standard with power windows, sunroof & other features in the 80s. Those were optional on the non-M 3-series at the time. It would've been more "Motorsport" if the M3 didn't come with those features but BMW knows market expectations.

It's the same with every generation, the standard series grows & changes, the corresponding M car grows & changes. For the enthusiast this appears to be a departure from what the ///M brand stands for, but it's just a natural evolution.

We will soon have electric ///M cars.

It is not a natural evolution, it is a chosen path by BMW.

We see Porsche and MB being more performance and driver focused than ever, BMW is moving in a different direction.

I have nothing against electric cars. When they are ready to suit my needs, I will have one in my driveway. If ///M makes the best one for me, then that's what I'll have .

CanAutM3 is very upset, give him some space. i don't even have the heart to tell him Kith just did a collab with Lucky Charms cereal (true story), thereby linking the M brand with a terrifying cartoon leprechaun.

I'd say it is more of a break than an evolution.

The common thread of all M3(4) since the inception with the E30 was to provide a dual use car, a practical daily driver and track toy. While the recipe to achieve this has evolved throughout the years, that basic philosophy behind the design and marketing of the M3/4 has remained constant. Folks debated over the recipe, but the intent remained. The F8X was an evolution, as it was able to expand on both extremes, being the best daily driver and most track ready M3/4 of all generation. Quite a feat IMO.

However, it is pretty clear that they have broken away from that common thread in the marketing of G8X. We'll have to wait and see how the car drives on track, but but from a design/engineering standpoint, weight went up significantly, they moved away from DCT and downgraded on other aspects such as the rear brakes, which also indicates a departure from that original thread.

My next purchase will be to serve that exact same purpose. IMO, there's no "age" to own an M3/4, but it is rather about "purpose".
Exact same ages for me! Im 50 now, and looking toward an M5, can't stomach this current version.

I've read now quiet a few posts from you and no offense to you but some points i'd like to say.

- We get it, you hate the new M3/M4.
- You don't miss a chance on any thread to speak bad about that generation but you didn't even set a feet in that car
- BMW is going new ways. So what? It's their philosophy, like it or not! I appreciate their courage to go complete new ways regarding the design! compared with porsche or audi which look since 50 yrs the same!
- you wan't a daily driver and track ability? you get it with the M3/M4, at least regarding the numbers! you have absoloutely no idea what the engineers thought when creating the cars and i'm pretty damn sure they know much more about how to build a car than you.
it's heavier, so what? are you hunting lap times? are you running a Championship with your car? or do you just want to have fun with it?
who tells you you won't have it with that car? you didn't try!
- you change now your M4 with a Porsche whatever number. Good for you! you have the money to spend the double amount of an M3, happy for you. Now go to the Porsche Forum and be happy there and stop flaming here, it's annoying.

There are people here who like that car and like to discuss about it, and it's also okay to point sometimes out the negative aspects but your post's are really getting tiring and boring...Jesus every manufactor has stuff which people may like or don't.
You make the impression to be that kind of guy who want's to keep tradition in every aspect at every cost no matter on what topic.
Screw evolution, right?

oh and p.s.
at least in this segment they are still offering MT. Thank you BMW !
