I watched this last night. Regardless of what bmw ultimately decides to do, there will be a fast wagon for me. Balls in their court.

Were you able to get an allocation for the Avant?

haha no i'm not that fortunate. The timing of the M3 touring (if it were to come to NA) would line up perfectly with when i'll be ready to upgrade. What I meant to say was that if the G81 doesn't come over, I think id be totally fine making do without it.

The real takeaway is that 500ish ppl have said they might buy one so if we assume some factor out for ppl that are aspirational (honest but can't make it work), then a % for those who are wishful (if I had the money) and a % for those who are just strait up lying (maybe only to themselves), if bmw brought 150 to the USA they probably could sell them all Although Audi did that math and haven't sold out the rs6 avant |

Personally, I would be fine with a carbo-box on top of a sedan if the price was that much higher for a wagon. I would also choose the sedan if the wagon were not offered in 6MT, but it seems there is a market for Enthusiast Wagons. |

For example in the X3, the battery is under the trunk floor, which I’m guessing counts as under the car’s floor and isn’t considered part of the passenger compartment.

Edit: Before it causes any further confusion, just to clarify, both F87 M2 and F8x M3/M4 have their batteries located in the trunk compartment below the trunk floor level. M3/M4 battery is located on the right-hand side below the trunk floor while the M2 has its battery located pretty much in the middle below the floor. Regardless, my question stands. Is the battery of G81 located anywhere different than the G80/G82 battery? (If remember correctly, the claim in an earlier post was that G81 battery location required a redesign for G81 to be homologated in the US). Last edited by M-Pilot; 09-14-2020 at 04:53 PM.. |

Additionally, I assume bmw already, just from the pining and commentary over the years, knows for a fact they could sell 150 wagons in the USA of a 1000 car global allotment. The USA is not missing out on the M3 wagon because bmwna can not sell its share of the 1000 M3 wagons.... its missing out because they can't sell any 330i wagons |

As the car gets bigger the allure of the coupe might be more suited to the 2 series. The proportions of the wagon just look better, and yes it is small sample size but of 656 people with the question "which model of G8X would you go with" and only 30 chose the coupe. Small, anonymous, internet friends, etc... but that is an amazingly small group of enthusiast that would choose the coupe, IMO. I was asking the question as a larger question about broader market trends....Maybe wagons will start to be an SUV alternative, possibly BMW should have brought G21 wagon to market. |

In any case, no one said that the FMVSS has to be logical or make sense. If that were the case, we would have the adaptive beam headlight functionality fully enabled in the US right now. |

Are you saying something changed in the past year about regulations pertaining to battery location?

I'll only consider the G81. hopefully with those garish M-Performance parts.
im in no rush to get myself into the G80 right now. maybe if we get final confirmation that the touring won't be available in the US.

I'm trying to justify having a 5thdoor in the back to make up for whatever the hell is going on up front. I can't decide if a touring makes this generation an easier pill to swallow.

Yeah, this poll seems to indicate that a lot trendy people will like the grill... especially with an old fashioned station wagon attached to it. WTF? Any chance I can get some M Performance vinyl wood grain on the sides of that thing?
That should flatten SUV sales back to less than 50% of BMW sales in the U.S. |
