What will you get instead of a G8x M3/M4?
...What do you plan to purchase instead? I mean...truly...plan to purchase; I'm not interested in posturing. I'm genuinely curious, and looking to see who will commit to something else and truly adhere to that commitment (...and not end up in a G8X).
Note: I accidentally voted in my own poll trying to swipe using the app. I definitely do not plan to buy an Audi. Last edited by Sedan_Clan; 10-24-2019 at 08:42 PM.. |

I am totally disgusted with the E8x. I have not decided whether to replace it with a Trabant, a Lada or a Pontiac Aztac.

Any of the above. I have a deposit for a C8 and I’ve contacted my Porsche dealer about Cayman allocations. G80 isn’t supposed to come out for at least 9 months. I haven’t driven any cars I’ve considered buying.

As in another thread, I’ll pay off my M4CS, and eventually add an e92 competition to the garage.
New cars are so “meh” these days.

Is the next generation M3 potentially high on my list? Yes. However, I can't answer the proposed question until I see a G80 in person and drive it. No one knows what the production G80 will look or drive like at this point, so any answer is based on conjecture. What I love most about the M3 is the versatility of the car (went from 991.1, to M2, to M3). To me, my F80 is the perfect blend of the aforementioned cars (all stellar).
As far as moving back to Porsche. I've had 2 Cayman S's and one 911. They are special, beautiful (IMO), and drive like a dream. However, they can be challenging to live with on a daily basis due to practicality (I'm single, no kiddos), are expensive to maintain, and depreciate steeply if purchased new and driven (10K+ miles per year). I love them. However, they are a factor or two more expensive than BMW ownership. Worth it? IMO - yes for the experience. Not for everyone, though. C6 - Sounds like an incredible car - numbers are impressive. However, great cars are more than just numbers. It also has the practicality issue like the Porsches. I've not driven one, yet. I still question build quality and interior quality from experience (ex-GM engineer). Porsche is rock solid in this aspect, but more expensive. I'm hopeful of this car. Can't beat it for bang for the buck. Never owned one, yet. Maybe this will be the one. Dunno. MB C63 - I've never owned or driven one. They have always caught my eye, though. Maybe I should drive one. My understanding is MB is more luxury/sport, and BMW is more sport/luxury. Lexus IS - A new one is coming next year. It will supposedly have the turbo V6 (possilby twin turbo like the LS). Who knows what it will look like and drive like. Cost of ownership is typically low, and reliability is typically high. Time will tell. Owned an IS-F and loved it. RC-F doesnt appeal to me style-wise. My $0.02.

M2 if they improve some ergonomics.

Either keeping my E90 M3, finding a used 911, or a new C8...these are the plans for now until I see the new one and drive it myself. So far from the leaks, it looks good minus the giant grill. My guess is that it will perform very well, feel ok and sound like poop.

I have no alternative other than G80 and I will try to twist my eyes to accept the design.

F97/98 but that's also due to some planned lifestyle changes ...
if it weren't for those I'd start config'ing 911s, but I hate the new 911 butt, so I'd move to the jag vert but then I'd sit in one and conclude the interior just can't be tolerated, so I'd head over to the Benz GT and get really REALLY close to signing the check but ultimately puss out because the price wouldn't seem quite worth it so I'd move over to the M8 'vert and get really really REALLY close but decide I just didn't need the extra luxury in a 'vert and figure as long as I'm looking at pigs I might as well peek at the M5 even though no vert, and then I'd see the lease deals and all of a sudden an M5 with a moonroof would start looking pretty fucking close to a vert plus, holy shit, M5C so I'd end up with that. It's a pretty simple 16 step process |

The last time I visited the dealer it was my favorite and the only car that from a visual gave me that I want it feel and it competed with for example M2Cs, M3/4s, M8s and X3/4Ms. Last edited by solstice; 10-25-2019 at 10:02 PM.. |

M5 would work in this case because I already only put 10k/year on my F83 and the next car will either get way less or way more ... if more then the X4MC works great cause i'll need the utility, but an M5 could work there too maybe. I like the Xer because it's a bit more stealth |

Disclaimer - I'm not in the market for an M3. But if I were, I'd think very hard about cross-shopping it with something much worse - a charger scat-pack widebody.
And this is probably coming from a place of ignorance - I've never owned either car long term so I don't know if buying an FCA product at the end of the day is going to ruin me. But holy cow does it look amazing. Those fender flares, incredible muscular stance and the air scoop. This is how you do aggressive without grafting on an oversized grille. Also that engine, it's so full of drama. It's alive, and it makes you feel alive every time you turn it on (I've driven the current scatpack) Also, one my favorite car journalists - Jason cammisa seems to like it. I know he's polarizing but he doesn't BS and just tells you how it is. |
