It is reasonable to believe that this sort of muffler is here to stay - it's relatively prominent on the E92 M3, more so on the F80/82, and even more so on the F87C...and now again on the G80.

Relax? lol. People said the same thing about M2C test mules and the fugly muffler made it to the production. I bet it'll be a similar story for the G80 as well. I really hope you are right but I'm not very optimistic.

That large exhaust udder that hangs down is typically where most gas tanks are tucked up right? I wonder if the design has something to do with weight distribution or rear end weight transfer when gas is sloshing around back-and-forth. Just a wild stupid guess on my part and I'm sure my comment will get blasted. Lol.

Muffler's so grotesque so people know they'll be ticking the box for the $5k performance exhaust. ///Marketing at work!

It at least raises the question as to why they didn't try and tuck it up higher somehow...

The 500 hp Competition model is on the path to be rather expensive. $80k+ USD to start would be my guess.

Definitely a reasonable point of view - the M2 is the M3 of old, price-wise and BMW has been moving the M3 up market for a while now.

It looks like they're using an M sport or base model rear bumper with the M muffler. So it'll probably be that big, but much better hidden. I don't expect it to be much worse than the F80 or F87. Remember this is a pre-production mule. They could just mixing and matching parts. BMW has never made the rear muffler that exposed and there's no reason to think they will now based on a test mule. That's just jumping to conclusions. Test mules often have strange things like this, don't worry. Nothings' final yet.
