Custom Sub Enclosure
I never did a true first post on my car so I'll make this double duty as first post and update on the audio situation.
Base 22 G80 M3 Manual fully loaded except for carbon brakes. Fiona red carbon bucket seats. Got it in October and immediately did full body and wheels ceramic coating plus race package PPF. Then started the audio upgrades. First I'm doing all of this through JML Audio here in St. Louis, Mo. Very high attention to detail/quality custom installer that I found. The owner Josh has been awesome to work with and is even helping me get into the HPDE scene. The first thing I did was get 3-layer sound proofing on front and rear doors. Definitely helped keep the full sound of the factory speakers in the car. Hard to quantify this of course and not cheap, but they always start with that to have a good environment to work with. The owner and I then listened to a bunch of songs, evaluated sound quality and both agreed the low end was lacking most. He even convinced me the factory speakers otherwise don't sound that bad. Mid range is lacking but the high end seems good. Then most recently I had them build a custom sub enclosure and amplifier rack to address the biggest issue the complete lack of low end in the system. They did the design and matched the sub enclosure to the front grill. Leaning into the love it or hate it grill I suppose. I think it is great personally. The amplifier rack is behind the seats, between the seats and the sub enclosure. I can add a picture of that in the next few days. They left space for additional amplifiers for the rest of the speakers just in case I decide to change those. The shelf was also sound proofed. The amp is the Audison AV Uno 1700W Mono. The speakers are two 10" Nertz Mille Legend. A few other notes. It is currently wired off of the under seat sub input. So I can control the level of the base from the subs with the normal BMW bass level. I have coded B&W and either use standard studio setting or concert with full surround. I had previously coded out the active sound but since the latest update it is piping back in. So need to work that out or I hear the sound through the subs. For now I just hit the button to turn off active sound. Sound is really incredible now. Obviously it hits like a truck if you want it to. But the sound range of these subs is also pretty good I guess. So I think they in some way start to make up for the lack of mid range in the in car speakers. Next step is taking it on the track early April for my first HPDE event. Very excited about that. So I think i'm a true M3 full value purchaser. It is my daily driver, park in garages on both ends. I'm making it a hell of an entertainment machine with the audio changes. And it will be on the track in a few weeks. Here is the end result and a few in process pics they took of the trunk work. Hi mate
This looks very nice. Am I right in thinking you just have the stock HK from factory and you have tapped onto the underseat woofers to get signal to the sub? Can you send some picture where you mounted the amp? |

The Alpha One Amplifier has 11 output channels with 10 speaker level output channels and one RCA line level pre-out to drive an additional subwoofer amplifier. I’m considering using that channel to run the same setup that you have with the amp and speakers, but have not met anyone running the 10” subs to hear the sound. Any suggestions? |
