Extended warranty - BMW or CARCHEX?
What would folks recommend for an extended warranty for a brand new 2022 BMW X5 45e?
Dealer is offering 84 month/70k miles for $7,299 and throwing in a free 60 month / 60k maintenance. Has anyone ever used CARCHEX? Are they reliable and easy to work with? Cost? |

I’d stick with BMW.
With the free maintenance it sounds like an exceptional deal. Keep in mind too you are in a CARB state so you’ll get a 15Y/150K mile warranty on the power train from BMW. So you are really paying for the maintenance or "other" failures like iDrive or something. |

I believe the Carb provisions apply to the exhaust system and the battery pack.

This deal will only work if you drive less then 10k miles a year. you can try to negotiate that price lower as the margins on extended warranty and maintenance plan are really high.
Third party extended warranty from a reputable company should be cheaper with more years/mileage coverage. You have to make sure you read through and compare the coverage items vs the dealer warranty. Also make sure there is a cap on claim limits. |

Ended up going with Geico's MBI. 7 years / 100k with no annual mileage restrictions and bumper-to-bumper coverage. Less than $150 a year but does come with $250 deductible. Still a no brainer.

Me too. Now with the pandemic causing havoc with new cars, I am really glad that I can keep my car for at least another three years with warranty type protection.

The only limitation is it ties you to Geico for the up to 7Y duration. I shop insurance too much to be landlocked. |
