Define best.
If you want a downpipe with no CEL, the active autowerke is the best. If you are looking for the best finish and quality, Akrapovic is the best. Evolution Racewerks is second. Power is almost identical in all of them.

We make the largest downpipe at 3.5'' vs the typical 3 inch.
Best in flow would go to the MAD fatboy downpipe.

Pipes is pipes…as long as they fit.
Mike gives solid recommendations and great prices (just ASK!). That’s why I buy from X-PH.

I was also really surprised at the sound quality as well. I was expecting it to be quite a bit louder, but it's only a little louder, with nice tone when in M mode. It was a pleasant surprise. Also.... with these downpipes and a stage 2 e50 OTS map I ran a 10.1 at 133.... |

[QUOTE]=Jasinedward;31148962]This is what I just had installed.... Price was excellent and quality is great! I still don't understand why people feel the need to pay thousands for cat deletes?

Akrapovic sets the bar for quality. No one can compete with their manufacturing or materials, and the price reflects it. The brand is world-recognized, even by BMW. You didn't mention if you were looking for catless or catted DPs, Akrapovic US does not import the catless version, so you are left with catted only (200cpsi). If you want cheaper, there are all sorts of options, but cheaper doesn't mean a better deal in all cases as a lot of the brands are manufactured overseas with cheap materials, copied designs and/or subpar fitment - you tend to get what you pay for. Some get lucky, some are not so lucky. It all comes down to what your time is work, as most shops will still charge for installation if you brought your own parts. We've got our favorites here we like to install and usually we carry these brands - there's other brands that simply know is going to be a PITA to fit and we'll warn the customer up front. If not opting for the Akrapovic pieces, we like the Evolution Racewerks Sport Series High-Flow Catted Downpipes. These are T304 Stainless, TIG welded, have high flow 200cpsi cats and are manufactured right here in the US. You can get then in brushed, polished or even hi-temp black thermal coated finish. This is what we install here, we know the ER guys for years and installed their products on customers (and our own) vehicles, including those on the track. The ER pieces are essentially bulletproof, so they can take the abuse. ER offers a non-catted version also. If going the Akrapovic or ER route, you won't have anything to worry about. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I'm happy to help.

The catted ER's (downpipes) are pretty easy to get rid of CEL w/ spacers? Non-tuned vehicles?? |

Not a fan of O2 spacers. Recommend to either unlock/tune the DME or live with the CEL.

The secondary o2 will throw a code if its not getting enough flow to the sensor to monitor properly.

All of the above. It's a bootleg way of handling the issue and can cause serious issues long term.

Downstream narrow band sensors are used to calibrate the upstream wideband sensor. Unlikely to to cause an issue and the car will work around the downstream giving seemingly bad data, but why not allow everything to run as the builder intended, if possible? |
