What small thing about the G8X makes you smile?
Too many threads about which M car is better, which G8X is better, yadda yadda yadda.
On a quick drive this morning to run an errand, I found myself hopping in and out of M1 mode in my car (which is my "more spirited" but not "full kill" mode). And I thought..."man, these little red buttons look kind of weird but MAN they are just so appropriately placed to make it easy to change preset modes." Kudos to BMW, I love how easy it makes it to instantly change the character of the car. yes I know mode switches aren't new, or exclusive, but I think the implementation of them in the fact that they are soooo easy to use, so customizable through many parameters (although not having Sport display mode is just a stupid oversight). Makes me smile. Anyone got anything else? Yes, it's fast. It's capable, etc. Those are all more obvious qualities. How about some small nerdy things? |

Small thing you say? Does my junk count? No, but seriously, I love my convertible top.

I like how the M logos in the seats illuminate upon unlocking, at night it is a very striking and welcoming feature. I also like that I can turn on/off the HUD using a preset button, instead of having to dig into menus. Agree about sport display though, by default that should come on the instant you press M1/M2.

I don't have a G8X (yet, maybe) and this is a feature in most if not all recent M cars. But seeing the "M3/4" badge or any "M#" badge light up in the front seats is a feature that makes me smile.
Its a small but neat visual detail, by far one of my most favorite features on the G8X especially on the Carbon Fiber Bucket seats! Favorite optional feature for the M3? Carbon Fiber Buckets... I refuse to own a G8X without it to be honest. |

It’s not a small thing, but for me, it’s the ONLY thing that even made me like these new BMWs. The S58. BMW have finally simplified and advanced the design to be what it should have been before. No more bullshit convoluted crank hub and timing chain designs that can fail. No janky oil filter housings up front that have other wacky issues. No more bs on top of the engine that hampers easy and straight forward coil pack and/or spark plug replacement. Just simple and refined Japanese layout. If Toyota truly did have any major say in the redesign of the engine overall starting with the B58, then it has shown because I felt like up until now, the S55 and engines before it were like an RB26 and the new S58 is like a 2JZGTE, albeit parallel turbos and not the wacky sequential setup of that engine. I swear, the shit crank hub design of the S55 was like the shit oil pump design of the RB. Lol
Anyway, yes, for me it’s the engine and nothing else… hell, I didn’t even like the front end until the CSL came out and the trunk lid on that made me change my mind about the front. 😆 |

I can tell you what brought the biggest so far. I did not think I could love this car anymore...
Recently, on a Sunday drive, I had the top down and was about to turn right onto one of my favorite stretches of twisty roads. As I approached the turn, a beautiful, deep grey Ferrari 458 Spider traveling from the opposite direction turned onto the same road before me. I suspect most on this forum would react as I did: "Oh...Let's go." After making the turn, I set myself about 6-8 car lengths behind the Ferrari and stayed there. The driver of the Ferrari knew what was behind him and was eager to play lead. We played this game for about 10 miles, navigating many curves and enjoying the moment. At one point, we passed about a dozen Porshe traveling in the opposite direction as one would expect on local twisty road on Sunday afternoon. It was a unique experience being planted behind the Ferrari, with the top down listening to the Ferrari V8, and he tried to pull away from me. He didn't. The G83, as a whole, brings a smile to my face every time I get in it. Some smiles are bigger than others but if I had to point to the simplest thing, it would price to performance ratio. |

I do love the M buttons. And the light-up seat logo. And that I can use the car for Costco runs, carry adult humans in the back seat, and continuing my running count of the number of people who have asked me if IOMG is a wrap in the 38.5 months since I got the thing (49 so far).
Edit - 11 wrap questions were at one C&C. Last edited by bri1042; Yesterday at 02:27 PM.. Reason: fun |

This thread sucks, where's my bickering!!!!
In all seriousness: it's not really a G8x specific thing, but I'm still in love with Sakhir Orange every time I look at it it makes me smile. Other than that, the sheer performance I have even stock is still fantastic. Convertible also helps |

The small thing I think about every time I get in the car is the full leather (not starting an argument about full vs extended lol). To me, it makes such a huge difference and I love to run my hands along the tops of the door cards....oh yeah! lol Coming from an RS5 (which should have an option for full leather, but doesn't) it's a NICE upgrade in the luxury feeling of the interior. I had the full dash in leather on my G20 M340i, but the full leather is next level.

After putting my intake in, that induction and blow off valve noise always gets me. It's so dramatic in this course, I love it.

The lazer headlamps are friggin brilliant (no pun on our Brit friends)!
Nice that the front headrests raise/lower by moving the comfort seat back adjuster up/down. If you use AutoStart then turning your steering wheel will restart the engine (safety feature to dodge out of the way).

Cornering lights. With how many cyclists we have in Colorado, it has saved me many times by illuminating the intersection (to the right or the left depending on which way I was turning) I'm at with somebody riding their bike into the intersection at night or early morning.

The smallest thing I like about my M4 is how easy it is to drift when you turn all the nannies off. The car is very playful on and over the limit.

I love the G8X's Jekyll-and-Hyde nature. So quiet and efficient in Comfort mode, and then so ferocious and bombastic at the touch of a button. And when I'm feeling really frisky, I dial in some additional slip using a low setting on the M Traction Control, and then the car turns into a playful brute at a mere prod of the throttle.
To the BMW engineers who are able to transform a regular 3/4 series into something so fun and thrilling... |

I love the 360 camera and parking assistance package. Never thought it was something I ever would have wanted, but now that I set an activation point in specific areas, it is awesome that the front camera turns on to show me the spacing to the curb etc.
