Has GM copied the Aventurine Red?

Gotto say I always loved Aventurine red and was sad I didn’t get it on my M3. Recently was able to get it on my IX 50 and was pretty happy with the color until a few days later a red Chevy Trailblazer was parked next to me and I couldn’t believe the color similarities. It was almost the same as Aventurine. lnfact I would say it’s the same color. Either GM copied the color or BMW is rebadging a common red as Aventurine red. Since then every red GMC/Chevy cars I see are almost the same as Aventurine and I don’t feel this red is special anymore and deflated my bubble. Has anyone noticed the similarities ?

I think it's always been this way, where other brands sometimes offer colors that are similar to what we can get on a BMW. It's more about what's exciting or exclusive within the BMW lineup.

Aventurine Red is an uncommon choice; I'd remember if I saw an M3 in that color ...whereas I could not tell you the colors of any of the 1,000 SUV's I saw this morning.

I love my Aventurin (no e at the end) M4, so much so that I almost ordered it again for my 2025. I didn’t, pretty damn close though.

Lol..My bad. Would it still be special if it wasnt an M4? I gotto say I was drawn towards the Aventurin Red after I saw pics of your M4 and Vic55 and fell in love.

I didn’t truly fall in love until I saw it in person. In some pics, it looked too brown for my liking, but I took the gamble and it paid off for me. The rarity of it for the G8X made it seem as if it was an individual, but without the extra cost (though at the time it was higher than standard metallic paint). My neighbor has a friend with an Aventurin X3 SDrive 3.0 and no, it never bothered me to see hers.

I thought automakers don't develop their own paint colors in-house but instead work with companies like PPG or BASF. If that's right, then it's plausible that two different automakers could have the same color.

Always seemed odd that people chase things like a car color that is available to anyone, think said color is special then ‘disappointed’ when they realize it’s not special.

I think most people chase a car color. You might be on the outlier side. That’s why u literally have a thread on car colors in here. You want something that standouts and hope it’s not as common. Not everyone wants to wait for an individual color or pay the 5K for it. BMW promotes certain colors to denote a certain model. IOMG for G8X, Zandvoort Blue for the M2 etc. Imagine you pay extra for a certain color and then see the same color on ur common Chevy base model cars. Then it doesn’t feel that special anymore doesn’t it.

How many popular BMW colors are really original Porsche colors? Methinks it’s a lot. Imagine you’re in your $250k 911 and a M3 pulls up next to you in the same PTS color. Ugh…

GM had "aventurine red" long before the G80. This type of dark red was popular in the 80's and 90's with many manufacturers.

Sure, we all want to pick a color we like but that’s different than the motivation to pick a color that stands out and is not as common.

People seem to want something that others don’t have. Less than a decade ago, Porsche charged about 5k for PTS, now is costs about 13k (depending on model). Porsche also has the more expensive regular choices. BMW is doing the same thing as their customers want the ‘exclusivity’ and are willing to pay for it. But these colors are not exclusive and are available to all of us regular people. And even to Chevy drivers.

Voodoo Blue. Toyota, Porsche then BMW?

Agree, there are a lot of examples.
