Downpipe + Valvetronic Midpipe = Best M3 Sound Ever?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey Bimmerpost fam! Here's the long awaited video demonstration of my downpipe + Valvetronic equal length single mid-pipe setup on the G80. Special thanks to Austin and Phil from Valvetronic Designs for creating this video. It was awesome hearing my car from the outside for once!

Quick review - I absolutely love this setup. It works with the factory valve control so it's quiet or loud when you want it. In efficient mode, it's quiet and just slightly louder than stock. I commute in this car daily in that mode. It's full race car loud in Sport+ when you're joyriding and just the right balance between the two in Sport. I was concerned about rasp after the downpipe but the single midpipe keeps the deep aggressive tone that the duals don't have. I highly recommend this setup!

They are getting more in stock of the mid-pipe very soon and if interested, use my referral link: https://valvetronic.com/?ref=ZVvd_wADgy1qNQ for a discount! Feel free to ask me any questions and comment below what you think!

I'd really appreciate a like and subscribe. More mods and content coming soon! Hint: Whoosh noises

Cold start in efficient mode(how it normally starts) isn't bad but if you flick it to Sport+ it is obnoxiously loud haha. Even tho it's in a garage, I would not cold start it in Sport+

You can get Active Autowerke DP with GESI Cat. It says you will not get a CEL with this DP.

Your clip has literally forced me to buy a G80 - thank you for this! This setup of yours has stock axle back/muffler, correct?

I can assume that the G8X exhaust setup similar to the F8X in terms of layout, so it goes DP -> midpipes -> axle back. So if this is how loud it is with catless DP's with a single midpipe, how loud would it be in conjunction with an aftermarket exhaust? Yikers.

Either way, thank you again!

Yeah their like 4 grand though…. I can get a R44 race exhaust cat back for around the same price and I wouldn't have to chop anything up!

R44 makes a catless DP with an internal O2 spacer that’s confirmed to prevent the CEL.

I actually emailed them and am looking forward to learning more about this. Living in NY means that the catless dp's will be a problem in about 3 years when OBDII inspections are required.. and this is assuming I can clear the CEL.

Could you direct me to where you found examples of the R44 dp's that don't throw a CEL? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Here is the link to R44 dp's. It doesn't say in the listing that it will not have a CEL, but I think they mentioned it in the video on the page. Might have to contact them to confirm.

Another option is Active Autowerke's dp, but it is a lot more expensive.

I ran iPE test pipes with embedded mini-cats like this on a previous car and I passed the OBD2 smog check with it. The relevant monitors were ready and the CEL legitimately off, no tune or software needed. I’m sure it would’ve failed an old-school actual sniff test, though. Visual may be an issue, too (old car had completely flat bottom, nothing exposed underneath). It’s probably enough for a “friendly” shop to pass you in NY.

I had MPE with midpipe and valves pulled on my Base F80 and my CS and it was one of the reasons I'm now divorced lol.

I ran catless dp's, catless midpipes, and a stock rear section with valves pulled on my f82. It was an absolute racket.

That said, planning on doing the same setup Soom is running. I have catless dp's going on this weekend. Valvetronics midpipe to follow whenever that comes in...

This setup just sounds so good. My current setup is just a dual resonator delete and x-pipe, which I've already got an exhaust ticket with. So this new setup should be fun.

Question. What's the difference between what you have now with the res delete and x pipe and putting on the valvetronics mid pipe?

Love the sound, but the fact that they complain about the front end on the order page turns me off.

Besides the quite strange grille setup, the G80 is a killer new M car, but like most, the sound is lacking.

It doesnt, it removes on that drive cycle but it will come back--- just like using an obd2 tool- its not permanent.
